Four Years Ago
Day 3

The Party is over at 94 comments!

We'll be back later today to announce the winner.

We're still celebrating my 4th anniversary in blogging and the start of year #5. Will we be celebrating a 5th anniversary next June? HMMMM :-)

Today's game is easy peasy - don't get too comfortable though because tomorrow is Grand Prize day and you might have to do a little more work. LOL

There's been a ton of attention this year on patterns by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co (Carrie Nelson). I've been a huge fan of her patterns for large quilts and her Schnibbles quilts for a long time. Lately I've been making quilts from her new book "Schnibbles Times Two", too. Yes, I do enjoy her patterns but there are other pattern designers I enjoy, as well.

The game - are you drawn to patterns by a particular designer? Do you find yourself waiting anxiously for the newest pattern by a particular designer? What do you like about their patterns and why?

The prize is 5 Miss Rosie's Schnibbles patterns but I will try to include a pattern by your favorite designer, as well.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about your favorite designer(s) and why.
*

Reminder: Winners will be announced Tuesday, June 15th.
*

Thank you for playing my silly games. I hope you're having as much fun as I am (Mr Daze is enjoying your comments, too).
*

In Friendship!

Ooh, I just love those Schnibbles . . . Schnibbles that I don't have yet! I am also a big fan of Cheri Saffiote-Payne's folk art style. Anyone that uses that many plaids can't be all bad! Since her style fits so well in my house, it's only natural that I am drawn to a pattern designer that I would enjoy working with. Makes it easier to decorate my house with quilts when it all looks like it belongs together.

I used to be drawn to all of Pat Sloans patterns, but my taste has changed lately from folk art/colors to very modern quilts so I watch Oh'Fransson and PSIQuilt for free patterns and stalk flickr.

I do not own a single Schnibbles pattern. I am drawn to them, but have yet to find a LQS that carries them...

I am new to the world of quilters and blogging. I have quite a few project that I am trying to finish up so that I may start to Quilt-Along! So Schnibbles, I have yet to try but can't wait to get to. I have noticed that Anikas Treasures has quilt patterns for many of the precuts that are now out there. That will also be part of the Next frontier for me.

I love the Schnibbles, although I've not made any of them yet. I'm drawn to the patterns of so many different designers that I could never choose just one. It's really more about a pattern that catches my eye than the name on it though. Thanks again for such a fun giveaway! :0)

I love the Schnibbles patterns and I have one of Carrie's other books. I also really like Kim Diehl and Barbara Brandenburg. My taste in quilting has changed so much and I'm drawn to so many different types of quilts, designers and fabrics. I look forward to seeing all the new quilts, books and fabrics that come out. Thanks for a great giveaway!

Fun fun fun fun :)
Can I admit that I have never own or sewn a Miss Rosie quilt pattern? Yikes! Looking at your photo I have sewn a quilt pattern similar to Spin City.
I still love the stitchery quilts...particularly Leanne Beasley. I like her style, her love of colour, stitching and family, and her patterns are well written. However, these patterns are expensive and the quilts take forever to make!
I also seem to like Nancy Halvorsen's lines of fabric and patterns for similar reasons.

Nancy said...

I don't think I am drawn to any one designer.......but I am always intrigued by what designers do with some of the simplest block patterns. I do tend to gravitate toward the Miss Rosie patterns when I go to a quilt shop.... just to see what blocks are in the them and how the chosen fabrics shine in the pattern. I also love Bonnie Hunter's use of re-purposed fabrics and the scrappy look.

I recently purchased my first Schnibble pattern.... and am planning on making it bigger.......someday :o)

Anita in Florida said...

I don't have a favorite pattern designer. I like to make pictorial/scene applique blocks...I wish I could find more patterns of that type. But I do love to follow a quilt along.

I enjoy watching for the contemporary creations that are featured on Moda Quilt Shop. Do-able for the beginner, clean designs with fabric that I can order on the net easily - and the items are not only beautiful but they are usable.

I would LOVE to have a schnibbles pattern !

I have varied tastes, so I mostly have books and magazines full of lots of different types of patterns. I do have several Miss Rosie patterns and several Pie in the Sky patterns, so I guess those must be my favorite pattern designers LOL.

I would love to win these Schnibbles patterns to add to my Miss Rosie collection.

Thanks for the great giveaway!

My first quilting star was Eleanor Burns and her Quilt in a Day patterns. But there are just so many beautiful patterns out now, that it is hard to just pick one. I love Schnibbles, and I also love Bonnie Blue Quilts and Anka's Treasures. There are many many more that I love as well. Please don't make me pick just one :-)

I do like Rosies patterns, but I also love Gail Pan's desigs very much, they are so cute ....
And I should not forget to mention, that I've just orderd "Schnibbles times two", hopefully it will arrive tomorrow,

And the fun continues!! My favorite pattern designer? Right now it has to be Miss Rosie! I have been gloming her stuff for the last 6-7 months. I love everything she makes. Picked up all her books recently (those old out of print ones too). I must say that a close second has to be Joanna Figueroa from Fig Tree. Have you seen her new pattern line from Market! She has been introducing them one by one on her blog and they just get better and better! I like Camille Roskelley too but I can easily pick and chose from her line, Carrie's and Joanna's patterns are just too difficult to chose from. Hope you are having a great weekend!!

I do love the schnibbles.... but I also love Anne Sutton and any of the great designers from Australia!

Thank you for a wonderful give away!

I'm drawn to Carrie's patterns, but really when it comes to quilt patterns I'm not drawn to just one designer, or even just applique or just piecing.

sunny said...

My favorite designer would be Anne Sutton, but I haven't actually tried any of her designs yet.

Hi Darlene,
what a fun game! I have to admit that Carrie IS one of my most favourite designers! Having said that, I made two of the quilts you're giving away: Winter White & Open Season and I love them! The others you show I want to make, too...my plan is, to make each and every Schnibbles out there...maybe it will take me a bit longer, but it isn't a race ;o)
But I am also drawn to Joanna's designs (Fig Tree Quilts) - they're just divine...
In friendship, too!

I really like Atkinson Designs patterns...easy to follow.

I do enjoy Carrie's patterns. I was first introduced to her through a mutual friend who is a pattern tester for Carrie. Having a golden retriever myself, I can relate to Rosie's antics! I also love Amy Davidson's patterns because they are so colorful and easy to follow. Can't wait for the next pattern from either one of these ladies!

I don't have a favorite designer, but I do look for patterns that I can't figure out on my own. So many of the patterns on the market are so doable if you just sit down and figure them out and use your own measurements.
I have followed this Snibbles mania for a while and really like them. I like the size of them and that by using precuts, you get a perfectly coordinated quilt! Something I have a hard time with....so enter me!

Oh I have fallen in love with these patterns after seeing them on so many blogs. I would love to win these patterns. I don't know that i have a favorite designer. I do like Kim Diehl, Bonnie Hunter and I love all the Schnibbles patterns that are out there. Fig Tree also has lots of patterns that i like. It's more about what my eye is drawn to as I look at patterns. Wish I was rich so I could try them all. With a limited budget, i don't get to buy many patterns but I dream a lot!

soggybottomflats said...

This sounds very cool too. I think my favorite designers are the ones online, like Rachel from PS I Quilt, Cluck, Cluck, Sew and Crazymomquilts. Thanks for making me think, Elaine

Monica said...

I love Carrie's (Miss Rosie) patterns because they scrappy and always quick and easy. I am always looking forward to seeing what she does next.

Kim West said...

I don't necessarily have a favorite designer. I am drawn, however to jelly roll patterns and charm square patterns. I like the ease of buying a jelly roll or a couple of charm packs and some yardage and then boom! a quilt. (well not quite such a fast boom). I hate picking out fabrics to go together. Some of my favorite designers that make these is of course, Miss Rosie, GE Designs, etc.

Cindy said...

I do love the "Schnibble" affect...LOL

I am also drawn to anything that Lynne Hagmeier puts out for Kansas Troubles Quilters. I love her fabrics, her designs, her pattens and everything about her style.

Yes, I am bad because I have my own personal stash of KT - and NO ONE touches it except ME...LOL

Mary said...

Carrie Nelson is one of my favorite - I love the scrappy look of her patterns and I ADORE the Schnibbles line. Other favorites include Kim Diehl, Terry Atkinson and Heather Mulder Peterson.

I tend to be drawn to certain designers with my knitting and my stitching, but not as much with my quilting. However I DO love those Schnibbles that you have posted!!!

Oh yes - several! I particularly love anything Primitive Gatherings does - wool is scrumptious. :) And since I love redwork Crabapple Hill is a favorite too. I don't have even one Schnibbles pattern yet so I'd love to win these! blessings, marlene

Schnibbles are amazing.
Okay, my favorite OTHER pattern designer is Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms. I believe her Wild Thing and Pint-sized patterns are classics.
And then my Other favorite pattern designer Joann Figero. That Cameo pattern is wonderful...
And on and on...Oh ya, then there are the American Jane patterns.

I love The Pattern Basket patterns!

I think their fun and easy but beautiful at the same time :)

I think for me what happens is I'm drawn to fabric choice by any designer. If they have chosen fabrics that appeal to me than I am drawn to their style right off. Like Kim Diehl, Lori Smith or Jo Morton...but then a designer like Carrie comes along who has these easy Schnibbles that only requires a few charms and small bit of fabric and she reels you in! It gives us all opportunity to have a wee bit of a whole fabric line in a quilt that doesn't take a lifetime to make. You know...instant gratification. For me that is big with quilting for others I don't always have time to make BIG for me. My home is loaded with smaller quilts. I already own all the Schnibbles patterns you have here so don't enter me for this one. Can I give Shakerwood my comment # for a win? Hee!! I know she would love them!!

Susan said...

Funny you should ask. My favorite designer is Carrie Nelson, the designer of Schnibbles!
I just love her patterns because they can be made up in so many different fabrics and no matter which fabric line you use they come out great.

llo said...

I have always liked the patterns from Miss Rosie. I am now into smaller quilts from Kathleen Tracey, Jo Morton and of course the Schnibbles. I found that I have one too many large quilts and that the smaller ones go anywhere in my home. I still admire Jan Patek's homespun quilts and have made a few of Judie Rothermel's lately. I guess the bottom line is that I just about like all of them.

I adore all of Carrie Nelson's patterns but another designer I like is Heather Mulder Peterson. Her patterns I think showcase fabrics beautifully and her directions are well done.

Anne Ida said...

Oh, I have been following the Schibbles wave that's been going through blogland with eager eyes, and today I actually ordered Carrie's book - needless to say I'd love to win the patterns?

Hmmmm... to answer your question (have to be eligleble for the draw, don't I?), I very seldom make more than one or two quilts following the pattern of the same designer, probably because I'm terrible at following patterns/recipes - sigh! I LOVE reading patterns and books, and dive in looking for inspiration. But once I see something I like, and unless it's something very complicated I have to follow closely, I do my own little twist on it. Ok, was this a very complicated way of saying I don't really have a favorite designer?

swooze said...

I am not really drawn to any one pattern designer. I really like Animas quilts and Eleanor Burns amongst many others.

Anonymous said...

I love looking at Schnibbles quilts but do not have any of her patterns yet. I usually order all fabric and quilty stuff online so by the time I'm done buying fabric not much if left for patterns! I love Bonnie Hunters free website patterns and use mostly patterns from magazines (easy to get)I'd be happy to be entered into your drawing!

Joanna said...

I am relatively new to quilting and don't really notice the designer - shame on me! I like Eleanor Burns and refer to her books often for how-tos. But being new, I'm also open to suggestions and new ideas. I'm not sure if I know exactly what a schnibble is, but the quilts that contain them are beautiful, (and it's a cute word, I might name my next pet schnibble - HA.)

Wendy said...

Oh my that is a difficult question. I love so many designers like Jo Morton, Fig Tree, Kim Diehl, Miss Rosie and the list goes on.

Pam said...

I love Schnibbles and have two sets of materials all ready to be sewn for patterns from the Schnibbles Two book. However the other quilt artist I love is Edyta Sitar from Laundry Basket quilts. Her combinations of batiks and traditional fabrics are stunning. In addition I had the good fortune to attend an applique class taught by Edyta and she is a wonderful teacher, kind, patient, and so talented!

Loving your giveaway celebration! I too am caught up in the A Year of Schnibbles! I love all of those Schnibble patterns...my favorite pattern designer is tough..I love Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr, Denyse Schmitt, and modern pattern designs as well as traditional scrappy stuff..say Bonnie of Quiltville!

I guess we all are collecting books and patterns from favorite designers.Right now I am collecting everything from Yoko Saito.

I find myself gravitating towards the quilts being made by Ashley at Film in the Fridge - they really speak to me! I don't know if she has any published patterns, but I love her work!!

Michelle said...

For me, it's the star or log cabin pattern that gets my attention - not necessarily the designer. I also like patterns that are more simple/big pieces because I want to be able to see big chunks of the fabric I'm using.

Karen said...

I look forward to Cheri Saffiote-Payne patterns, Blackbird Designs, and Jan Patek. Prim designers. Well, Blackbird does some romantic looking designs also. I do like Miss Rosie patterns for pieced quilts.

Michelle said...

I've been drawn to the Schnibbles patterns, but none of the quilt shops I've checked around here seme to carry them. And (so far at least) I've had enough self control not to buy any online.

The designer I wait anxiously for patterns from is Bonnie Hunter, because her patterns are so well suited to the fabrics in my stash.

antique quilter said...

hmmm I have a few favorites...
I love the patterns that are inspired by antique quilts Gwen Marston, Kaffe Fassett, Julie Henderson, Patricia Cox, Di Ford
AND then I LOVE patterns by Carrie Nelson, her patterns are just the best and I need to make some of these schnibbles. and Cheri Payne for the folk art/ prim look should I go on????

deserae said...

I love Kati Cupcake, because they are usually so fun!

Kaaren said...

I really don't have a favorite designer because I'm not too familiar with any of them. I love working with wool and love anything with a primitive or vintage look to it. I definitely prefer traditional style quilts as opposed the to modern looking ones simply because that is the way I decorate and what my eye is drawn to. Having said that, I do appreciate all the work that goes into the designing and construction of all quilts...no matter what the style.

And I just recently made my first Schnibbles..."Picnic"...which I love. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Winona said...

I have never done a Schnibbles, but sure have loved seeing them on blogs. Without a doubt, my favorite designer is Lynette Jensen. I love everything about Thimbleberries. I have several of her books and have made lots of her patterns. I also love Jan Patek's design, though I don't have any of her patterns. Someday...especially since she is a fellow Missourian. Winona

Darlene B said...

I absolutely love the patterns and fabric designed by Heather Mulder Peterson (of Anka's Treasures)and her amazing sense of color. I also love Kim Diehl's quilts and her applique method. There are many others, but these are probably my two favorites. (I love the Schnibbles patterns, too, but haven't purchased any of those yet!) dsb448@att.net

All I know about Schnibbles is what I've seen around Blogland, I've got to get out more, LOL! I like Civil War at this moment and traditional has been my first love.

I don't have a favorite designer either but lately, I am really attracted to anything appliqued that is historical looking... like some of the civil war stuff or Baltimore album blocks. I also like the Bunny Hill patterns a lot.

I've been watching everyone making Schnibbles and have been wishing for some of those patterns! Haven't found any to purchase locally or on any recent travels.

Oh I want those...I have also been making the Schnibbles Times Two. I have finished Bennington and McGuffey. Besides Carrie Nelso, I enjoy Kim Brackett, Bonnie from Quiltville and Me & My Sister Designs.

I love Miss Rosie patterns especially Schnibbles. Those little Schnibbles quilts are addicting and fun to make. I do look for the new Schnibbles and Miss Rosie patterns. I also like Thimble Blossoms patterns. I just got a new one called Piece of Cake 2. I'm drawn to Camille's patterns and her mom Cotton Ways. I also like This & That patterns and Fig Tree Quilts patterns. My other favorite is Bunny Hill patterns.

i love designers who make out of nothing something amazing ... someone who does not use only designer fabric and fancy rulers ... (though they can) but someone who you can feel PASSION behind every design stroke, yet rooted in past and tradition (some are Rodenmayer, Annie from Bunny Hill etc) ...

I have a number of favorite designers, many of which are mentioned in the other comments: Miss Rosie (aka Carrie), especially her Schnibbles; Kim Diehl with her gorgeous combination of patchwork and applique; Heather M. Peterson (Anka's Treasures); and Terry Atkinson's patterns are unrivaled for excellent directions and sweet designs.

There are two that I keep checking out and buying. First is Lydia Quigley of The Rabbit Factory and second is Lori Smith of From My Heart to Your Hands. I don't have a favourite designer. Usually I fall in love with the pattern, like I fell in love with your Elizabeth and want to make it.

Silverthimble said...

My favorite designer is Terry Atkinson of Atkinson Designs. I love Terry's designs because the directions to make the quilts are so well illustrated and easy to follow. I am never stuck not knowing what to do next. I think part of the reason that Terry's designs are so successful is that they are well tested by regular, everyday quilters like me before they go to print. I have been watching folks make these Schnibbles quilts on the internet lately, but I have not yet made one of them.

I love anything by Gwen or Freddy. I'm not very good at following exact patterns.

I like many designers, but mostly am drawn to something 'different'. Getting tired of seeing the same old, same old, until it's presented in a new way.

I try to find ideas that not tried before to learn new techniques. I hardly EVER go by a pattern, but LOVE to buy their books!

I have 3 designers that I found just this year - and Carrie Nelson is one of them! Since you've talked about her I'll tell you about my two other current obsessions o:) First, Anka's Treasures' Heather Mulder Peterson. I love her fabrics and her designs include patterns for using charm squares, layers cakes and jelly rolls (another obsession). And, the fabulous Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree. I love, love, love her fabrics and her patterns are different and I am enjoying them alot!

Darlene, I've been wanting to make a Schnibble ever since everyone has been showing their quilts. Even have bought a few patterns, but no quilt...One day. I love Kim Diehl books, patterns, whatever she designs just draws my eye to them. Is'nt it lucky for all the designers to have quilters with different taste.

Loris said...

Hi Darlene, fun question. I think I am actually drawn to fabrics and collections first and perhaps more than to quilt patterns with a couple of exceptions. I was drawn to Carrie's books originally because of Rosie's pictures...ok maybe that is still true! For pattern styles, Sarah Sporrer always inspires me and though I have only made a few of her patterns, she really always comes to mind as my favorite. We are so spoiled these days with so many great artists.
Thanks for asking :-)
