Charm Square 4 Patches

Several have asked about my charm square four patches. Here's a quick tutorial.

Sew two different 5" squares (right sides together) a 1/4" on opposite sides.

Cut them apart - in the middle - you now have two 2 1/2" units.

Press them open and sew two units together; again right sides together a 1/4" seam allowance on opposite sides.

Now cut those units apart in the middle and you have two four patches per pair of 5" charm squares.

4" finished

I know this is not a new technique but it's a refresher; as so many of us are trying to figure what to do with those 5" charm packs. :-)
If my explanations are not clear please let me know and I'll be happy to answer your questions.

Ahhhhhh, so that's how it's done! Thanks for 'splaining!

I'm going to play with charms this weekend. Those would count as stashbusting, right? LOL

Well, you are just a clever girl. Your tutorial is great - now I want to cut some 5" patches and get to work. I have no suggestion on what to do -- I'll just wait until someone else comes up with a cool idea *s*

Thanks for the tutorial. I had never seen that technique and I have 2 packages of charm packs. I am loving them and hope to buy more. Of course I couldn't grasp the concept at first but when I enlarged the picture I completely understood.

I'm sorry I missed your 101st post - congratulations :)))

I have some nickel squares that I may just use to make four patches. I love your 16 patches. Looks like you've been having lots of fun.

I love to see ideas for the charm packs. I might try the 16 patches that looks really cute. A couple of week ago I finished making 160 4 patches using the method you shared, it's fun and so easy.

What a great idea! I've never seen this done before--and what a great idea for using charm packs. Hmmm, I do have a couple of those somewhere in my stash....

Have just got some charm packs and was wondering what to do. Great idea. So you don't even cut off the edges?
Thanks
