Over 50 and Normal :-)
I was reading about Cheryl and her recent fiasco with her keys - you must read her blog. You'll snicker, giggle and possibly laugh out loud but if this sort of thing hasn't already happened to you believe me when I tell you that it will. LOL
I have to share a recent occurrence in my home. We were settled in one evening - watching TV - hubby in his recliner and me in my spot at one end of the sofa. I'm happily working on some handwork with my pile of "needful things" to my right. I was working away clipped my thread and ready to cut a new piece of thread and I couldn't find my scissors. My hubby looks over at me and asks what I'm searching for - I had something clenched between my teeth so I had to remove it to answer his question - I looked at him and said "I'm searching for my scissors, I just had them" - put that item back between my clenched teeth and continued to search. He snickered and said "you might want to check your mouth" - OMG, that item (as I'm sure you've already concluded) was my scissors. (Relax, I was clenching one of the handles!)
So, I've decided that if you're over 50 and doing this type of stuff then you're normal and if you're under 50 and doing this then I will say a little prayer for you. LOL
I hope that you're having a wonderful day and once again thank you for visiting!
In Friendship!

I'll be laughing about that one the rest of the day....too hilarious! The whole time reading your story I was visualizing the whole conversation...
The funny thing is that I had just read Cheryl's story about the keys as well.
You better way a little prayer for me....lol
Yup had just finished reading Cheryl's, and now this, but the sad thing is it's happened to me, too many times to mention, and I haven't hit 51 yet. Can I have a prayer too please?....lol...
Too Funny!! And gosh so true in this house as well - but I'm not quite 50 yet. Am I in trouble?
I'm stalking!!!!! Reader told me you hadn't up dated your blog! Liar, liar pants on fire! lol Well, thankfully, I'm not there yet! Oh, but how funny! I couldn't help but chuckle! Sort of the same chuckle that the quote gave me! ;o) That is funny! Oh dear, pretty soon you'll be needing one of those neckless that keeps your id next to your chest! LOL Just teasing you! Every time I see my aunt with one of those I just laugh! Ah.... she's used to me by now! ROFL Thanks for the laugh!
That is hilarious!!! I am starting to have some of the same things...not quite looking for something I have between my teeth...but on my way. I guess I need a prayer! You will have quite a prayer list when you are done, but it's ok, you will probably misplace the list!!
*LOL* - You really had me laughing there, Darlene :o)
But I'm sad to say that if you claim that this is symptomatic for people over 50, there is no hope for me! - I do this type of thing every now and again (last night you could find me running around my flat looking for the seam ripper I had in my hand...), and I'm not yet 30... Please keep me in your prayers (or do you think I'm a lost cause?)
Oh way too funny! But I WANT that applique thing you pictured! The colors and design from what I can see are soooo me!!!!!
Giggling about your scissors ... but unfortunately, it sounds all too familiar!
Jeanne :)
I laughed at your and Cheryl post. But I should laugh too hard
I'm still in my thirties, and last night I left my glasses, which I need to see, in the grocery store parking lot, luckily my DH was able to go and get them for me.
I laughed with Cheryl this morning and now I'm laughing with you...but oh my these are all hitting mighty close to home. Sometimes when I wear my contacts I wear cheater glasses...don't need them all the time so I'll put them up on my head...can I tell you how many times I've thought I lost them somewhere...Andy will just say "Check your head" and then we both have a good laugh.
Me too - it really is necessary to laugh at yourself when these things happen. Also nice to know we are not alone.
LOL!!!
Oh, gosh, I do things like that more than I'd like to admit. At least you didn't package up your car keys at the post office in a package to your secret quilter in Florida!
LOL, well I am not over 50 but have had similar situations! LOL ... we are all thinking about way to many things all the time. LOL... as my one sister would say... "we aren't being mindful" LOL, I love when she says that lol
OMG that is so funny. I knew you would say that they were in your mouth but I could see myself doing that and I'm not even 50!! LOL Cheryl is so funny isn't she?
It's me again. Please say a prayer for me ok? LOL!!!
What a relief, I won't even tell you about my cell phone incident! Thanks for the validation Darlene!
Nope, never done anything like that in my life!
How's this - I think if you are over 50 and NOT doing this type of stuff then you AREN'T normal!
I've been losing my mug of tea for years. I make tea and then carry it around and drink it while I do stuff around the house. The kids can tell you that they were asked many times to help find my mug of tea. It's been in the freezer, the linen closet, a bathroom, the garage, and just about anywhere else you can think of. And I started doing that LONG before I was 50.
And I, too, have tossed my keys in the trash at work. My assistant and I looked for over 30 minutes before she found them.
LOL! A member of the slightly over 50 club here....and doing just what you described. Sure glad to know that I'm not alone in my forgetful moments.
Isn't it a relief to know that now we can get away with this stuff legitimately! Thank goodness my DH is younger and can find my glasses on my head for me. When he's over 50 then we'll be in trouble! LOL
I laughed on several accounts, one being the scene. Exactly the same at my house every night, and DH always says, "What are you looking for?" Usually it's a needle and I can't admit how many times I haven't found it. (Once my DD found it the painful way. It was shoved completely into the cushion--i.e. irretrievable until sat upon.)
I'm just under 50 and doing this ALL the time! Start praying!
Fifty-seven here, so I've had many, many such experiences. :-) You have to laugh or else you'll cry.
Now that Kim has linked the two of us together in her blog I feel like
we are sisters - well crazy sisters! I was ROFL at your scissor story:-)!
Well Keith must not be normal because he's only 45 but he was searching everywhere for something the other day in the airport while he was talking on the phone. When he finished talking he finally told me it was his phone he had been looking for the entire time he was talking - duh!
You guys are too funny. And somehow I don't think it's reserved for over 50, but I do worry if the frequency increases as we get older. My favorite absent mindedness (among many) was the time I picked up a book, opened it to see all the words upside down, and proclaimed to about three people -- hey, look at this book, they printed it upside down! One of them calmly took the book, removed the paper cover and flipped it right side up. I think I was in my 30's when that happened! ;-)
This is such a wonderful post. It has all the elements I enjoy. I got such a chuckle and had to share the story with my husband. We both spend our lives looking for credit cards, keys and checkbooks- also prescriptions are at some risk. Glad to know its normal! Stephanie
