On My Nightstand!

This is "Sister's Choice", the latest Shenandoah Album Novel by Emilie Richards and as I was reading last night I came upon something I had to share with all of you. I won't ruin the blot, etc.

page 177
Grace invites Jamie into her sewing room and asks Grace if she has a quilt in progress.

Here's Grace's response: "Yes, indeed. That's a question you never have to ask a quilter. There are quilts in our heads, quilts in the way we pile fabric on our shelves, quilts on our design walls, under the needles on our sewing machines. Quilts waiting to be bound. Always quilts. Some of us will die planning the next one. We won't even notice the final breath"

This is so incredibly true and struck a chord with me. It's so difficult to explain a true passion to someone that doesn't have one. Quilts are always on my mind! :-)

Thank you for letting me share!

You've stopped by to visit and I appreciate it - please come again and often.

In Friendship!

Totally true. Completely. I always have something in mind - usually dozens. I need 6 arms and 4 feet really to do it all, and to have unlimited time. That would be fun. But I guess life is more about balance. And quilts are the spice in life.

I'm hooked now--- Got to get the book. It's so many times hard to explain, hard to make others understand, but she captures in on paper perfectly.... thanks for sharing.....

I agree...my behavior captured in words. I need to read some of her books. I have started a "friendship swap" with three of my friends, where we exchange once a month, 6" blocks of our choice. I have found I can make these 4 little blocks (one for me too) in a certain quilt style I have been wanting to do and it helps curves my appetite for starting a new quilt. This month, I did pineapple blocks - a quilt I have been wanting to start for several months now...and now I am satisfied, cause I have made some blocks.

I totally love that quote. It is like she has read our minds, or maybe our blogs! Obviously, she is one of us!

That is so how it is! Some don't understand having more than one project going at a time, but I don't know that I could not have more than one at a time!

That couldn't be truer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure explains a lot!

Hear, hear! This certainly describes me, and I'm sure it describes a good many of us. I joined a new yahoo group that focuses finishing UFO's. A current thread talks about "starting with just one thread" to get one going on a project. I just don't understand this! I NEVER need help to get me started quilting - I need help to get me to stop! I always wonder why they are quilting in the first place if picking up a project to work on is such a chore.

That is amazing, it describes me to a tee. I live quilts, think quilts and breath quilts, I just love them all the time. Thanks for sharing this prefect quote, us quilters sure can relate.

Well, that about sums it up! I love having projects in different stages. That way I can work on something I feel like doing at the moment.

I finished this book while away on vacation. I remember reading that passage and truly understood and agreed. She did so explain our passage. If I get up early when my DH finally comes out for coffee he often asks, "Planning a new quilt" or "Dreaming of a new quilt". I'm always thinking about a quilt.
