Gratitude & Generosity Challenge
(it's all about YOU)

Are you familiar with author Sheila Roberts? She's written some delightful books - "On Strike for Christmas", "Love in Bloom", "Bikini Season" & her latest book is "Angel Lane". Author Susan Wiggs says it best, "Her (Sheila Roberts) stories celebrate every woman's hopes & dreams". Here, here!!!!

I received an e-mail from Sheila not long ago telling me that she'd discovered my blog and would I be interested in reading her latest book "Angel Lane". I'd read Sheila's other books but didn't realize she had a new one. So naturally I said, "YES" and promised that I would read her book and that I would blog about it. A few days later a copy of her book arrived in my mailbox and I immediately read it - enjoying every word. :-)
On the back cover of the book it says, "author Sheila Roberts serves up a generous, openhearted story about friendships we make, the chances we take, and the lives we touch every day". Well, I find that blogging is also about friendships we make, the chances we take and the lives we touch every day and the lives that touch ours. Would you agree?

If you agree please leave me a comment and tell me how blogging has impacted your life. To thank you I will pass along the book and a little something made especially for you using the Sweet Hearts charm pack shown in the picture. I'll be back Monday morning to announce the winner.

My hope is that you'll read the book and pass it along to someone, as well.
*
Thanks for stopping by for participating in my simple, little challenge.
Sheila, I hope that you're still reading my blog - thank you so much! I appreciate that you sent the book for me to read and enjoy.
*
I appreciate you and your friendship - thank you for visiting.
*
In Friendship!

Wow Darlene, blogging has had a huge impact on my life. Not only meeting all the wonderfully creative people out in blogland, but I've felt an acceptance that I've never had before. When I post a picture of a quilt or something I've made, my new friends are encouraging and uplifting. I'm not a very advanced quilter, but I have to say that when I get comments and feedback from other quilters, well, it makes me want to try harder and work at this craft. I've been inspired, encouraged, motivated, and blessed by you and so many other fellow quilters. Thanks for your friendship and support. I also send you HUGS!
In friendship,
Jocelyn

Oh I agree! Blogging got me back into sewing and being creative again and has helped me to make so many wonderful friends! And of course...I would be happy to pass the book on after I'm done with it (if I win). Thanks so much! :0)

Sounds like a book I would love to read. Blogging has brought me some of my best friends. I've not met them in person but we share a special love of quilting and that gives us a bond of friendship.

Darlene, he book sounds like a good one, how cool to have the author reading YOU!
I have three quilts coming along all because of the internet. I am hoping to do your Between Friends this year!
I have started my own blog, and do enjoy the friends that comment and want to try new things. It is neat to see what others are doing. I find the blog friends very inspiring!

Oooh, such a wonderful idea, dear Darlene !
Well blogging brought such joys and inspiration into my life ;>) Especially because I chose to blog in English - which is not my mother language - and this led me to connect with quilters all over the world ! Actually, I consider my quilt blog as a thread to a fantastic bee, with wonderful, encouraging and inspiring women, sharing the same passion...
I didn't know about Sheila's books before your post, and would be THRILLED to discover her stories!
Of course, I promise to pass on the books, in case I'd be the lucky winner (cross my fingers AND toes! ;>)
THANKS dear !
XOXOXOXOXOOXOXOXOXOXOXXO

I haven't been blogging long but I've found so many other like minded quilters and much inspiration. I've never read Sheila's books, but I'm going to put her on my list. Thanks for sharing!

I whole-heartedly could not agree more! My life could easily be isolated if it had not been for blogging friends who have reached out in friendship to get to know me as I have them. The quilt blogs are a bonus in that we are all creative people with a passion for fabric and thread. You inspire me. You were the one who I first learned about random acts of kindness and truly loved that idea....as this post.
If I'm not fortunate in winning the book I'm still fortunate in the friendship you have extended not only myself but many others. Much love dear friend...

I also agree!

My mom has, many times, questioned my choice to be a blogger. I have tried to explain to her that the women I associate with through blogging are my friends, even though I may never meet them face to face. They are a part of my life, they have touched me, and lifted me up, and carried me forward when I needed them, and I hope I have done the same for them when needed.

I agree. I never thought blogging would interest me but I'm hooked on posting my own and reading others' blogs. I haven't read anything by Sheila - I'd like to give her books a try!

I don't have my own blog, but as a quilter and collector of many things, I have found everyone's blog that I read to be so enjoyable. The talent and inspiration that I get from all of you has made such a positive impact on my life. I have also had the opportunity to meet a few bloggers in person. They are wonderful, caring people such like I thought they would be.
As for the book, it sounds like such a great story. Thank you so much for sharing that with us.

While I always took pictures of my quilts, I am now documenting them a little better. Blogging has also introduced me to many different styles of quilting. It is also a good support group--we are, at times our own worst enemies, and our blogging friends give us encouragement AND, are not judgemental. I can't wait to read the book!

After living in south Florida for 15 years, we made the decision to return to Canada in 2001 to take care of my parents. At the time, I was still travel teaching, designing and writing decorative painting books, so I didn't miss my friends too much.

Within 18 months of one another, I lost both my parents...my Dad to Alzheimer's and my Mom to cancer...and the void in my life as a result was immense. The flames that encouraged my creativity were extinguished forever.

For almost two years after their deaths, I basically "existed". I didn't know anyone as all my friends lived in various parts of the US and in Florida. My husband was my rock.

One day I happened to strike up a conversation with a gal who was a quilter. She basically reignited my creative flame and got me interested in quilting.

Since we live in a very small town, I started internet shopping and stumbled upon a few blogs. The rest as they say, is history.

Thanks to blogging, I have "met" some of the most incredible people who have become very dear friends and who have opened doors for me that I thought had been locked forever. My creative juices are flowing again and I feel like I have been given a new lease on life.

Every person who I have made contact with through blogging has touched my heart in one way or another. I am so grateful to each and every one of you for giving me a goal and purpose. The world has become a much smaller place and I am happy once again.

Sally said...

Without blogging, I'd never have met people from around the world who share my love of quilting and knitting. Without blogging, I'd never have dared to try some of the quilting and knitting patterns that I've done. Without blogging, I'd be spending my days off shopping instead of reading and writing to and about all the people I've met! Without blogging, I would have stuck to the few authors I usually read and not ventured into other areas to discover new authors and genres. I'd be delighted to read the book AND blog about it AND pass it on when I'm finished.

Blogging has kept me going with my DJ quilt -- Lots of support and encouragement from my blogospher friends. Thanks for the chance for the generous giveaway!

I don't think you have enough time to read all my thoughts on blogging. I agree with what has already been said.....blogging has certainly opened up a whole world to me of new people who share my hobbies BUT we have also shared each other's lives...the good AND the not-so-good. We have tried to help each other when help was needed....and we have been happy for each other when things needed to be celebrated. We have helped each other to grow in many ways.....in our hobbies and in the way we perceive things in our daily lives. While the world is a big place, it has become smaller and friendlier to me through blogging. In the world of blogging, it doesn't matter if you are rich in material possessions or NOT rich in them...it just matters that you are a caring person who enjoys sharing ideas and friendship with others and is willing to help others when asked. I often wonder if quilters....through blogging and the internet... can find out how much they have in common and how their differences are really very few, why world powers couldn't do the same thing and work harder to get along better than they do now? *sigh* (But that is a topic for a much deeper discussion than this one, isn't it??) You are very kind to have such a nice giveaway. I am not familiar with the author you mentioned, but it seems as if she writes the kind of books I'd very much love....and I would welcome the chance to read her book and pass it along to one of the gals in my book group, as we enjoy sharing good authors with one another. Happy 2010 to you and your loved ones!

I love blogging!! I have met so many new friends... I really enjoy the challenges, and the swaps and contests...

Blogging has been a fun adventure for me. I am a full time care giver for my disabled husband and I'm not able to get out as much as I'd like. Blogging has been a great way to meet new friends, have almost instant feedback on the things I share and it has kept me inspired as I've read other quilter's blog!

I started blogging after having a fairly sad christmas last year. I had read blogs before for months but never dreamed of having my own. Since then I have made so many wondferful new friends - I have a new local friend who I adore and friends from all around the world. It has completely changed my life and totally enriched it.

Oh I totally agree! Blogging has brought me some wonderful friends who never fail to cheer me up when I'm a little down, who are always there to offer suggestions when I'm stuck on a layout or border option, and who I would love to meet and sew with. :-) I'm blessed to have met so many wonderful quilters all around the world!

I could say ditto to everyone elses comments. The biggest impact has been in the increased productivity because of blogging.

Hi Darlene! thanks for taking time to read and blog about my book. I think it is one many quilters will enjoy. I've been enjoying reading all the comments. You ladies have built up such a wonderful community here in the blogosphere. Isn't it wonderful how many friends you can find on the internet who share common interests - pen pals, the high tech version! I am so in awe of anyone who can quilt. It is truly an art form. My mother was a quilter, and made some wonderful old-fashioned crazy quilts. I didn't inherit that particular gift but I sure do admire it in others. Happy New Year and happy quilting!

Kim said...

Who could not agree with that statement? I think the unofficial mission of our circle of blogging quilters might be to do just that, accept and offer sincere friendship that takes a chance and goes beyond sharing quilty fun. Of course we are hit and miss with many bloggers along the way, but there are those special few who stick, they become friends. I have come to know many terrific people through blogging and yes some not so terrific, but those are few and far between. I would not give up blogging and meeting new bloggers because of a few disappoints that come along. I hope I have touched the lives of those I have come in contact with in a positive manner and with a kind heart. I know many have offered that to me and I thank them and you, Darlene, for that kindness.

When I retired and was alone with my quilting in a small town, I fell okay, but no feedback and no one to bounce ideas off of, and no one to encourage me! Well, that has all changed in a year of blogging! Wow, it's amazing, isn't it? If someone had told me a year ago that I would have this connection in my life now, I would NOT have believed it. Thank you everyone!

How absolutely wonderful that she found out you love her books and sent you one.

I have no idea who she is but I really like the description in the back of the book.

Blogging has changed my life. I find talking with like minded people on a daily basis has lifted my spirits quite a bit. I get lots of affirmation for being who I am naturally and I have the opportunity to do the same for others. I get cards and letters....and packages too.....just because. It has allowed me to re-connect to my faith in human beings and reminded me that there is always someone who cares.

I would not be the person I am today if I had not started blogging.

I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Smiles,
Kelly

I very much agree. Blogging has often given me both the outlet and the motivation to keep going. And not just quilting but in general. Bad day? Don't stew, blog about it! Done something awesome? Blog about it.
I don't get tons of comments but they often make my day. Some how people all over the place became the cheering section my family is most definatly not.

Blogging for me is ... hard! I started in 10/09 with 2 posts and then couldn't figure out how to get back to it - literally. I decided to conquer my blogging block and just did a 2010 post. Going to REALLLY try and master this. In the meantime - a book would be a wonderful distraction!

I agree, I agree!

Tho not a prolific blogger, I'm always amazed when people email and ask, "When will you return?" What, you missed me? You really missed me?

I prolly read 300 blogs each day, and know little tidbits about each author. I have learned so many techniques!

Keep on blogging, I love your blog!!

Thank you for your generosity.

Happy New Year, Darlene,
I am not familiar with her books, I am sorry to say.
I was a little nervous about blogging at first because I wasn't sure if I would ever have one comment but then they started coming. I have made so many great friends that have encouraged, inspired, and have blessed my life with their friendship. I am so happy to say you have been one of those people. Thanks a lot. Your friend in NC.

I'm sad to say I've not seen the authors books anywhere, but now that I know about them, I'll certainly look to see if I can find them. Hmm blogging, for me it has been a life line. It has opened the door to so many friendships always when they were needed and wanted. Women who understand what it is to miss family and friends, who understand the excitment of a finish and the frustration of having to pull out a seam ripper. Just knowing there are others who care, makes a huge difference in your day.

Jeanne Turner McBrayer said...

I started blogging just to keep a record of my projects. And if you have to write about quilting, you have to actually DO some quilting, so it is a good motivator. Little did I know about blog comments and all the connections I would make to other quilters all over the world.

Hi, Darlene! I really enjoyed this post and all the interesting comments. I agree with all of them. Quilters are the most wonderful group of people. Even though we differ in many ways and have different philosphies and speak in different languages, we all share a love of creating beautiful things. Without blogging, I would never have had the opportunity to meet some very special people -- like you!

I know I'm too late for your contest but your question is one that I would love to answer. On May 12, 2007 our 21 year old son died as the result of a swimming pool accident. One phone call from a detective with Mesa PD and our lives were turned upside down and will never completely be right side up again. I had been a quilter for years but found that I could no longer concentrate long enough to do something like a quilt. I began searching the web for something to do. I found a yahoo group that swapped mini quilts (quilties). This lead me to blogging.
I'm sure that blogging has saved my sanity. It provided me with a creative outlet. I met many wonderful creative people. I received inspiration. Here it is 2 1/2 years later and I still haven't finished a large quilt but I've been able to complete many mini projects and participate in swaps. Blogging has helped me by providing we with a creative outlet.
Thanks for letting me share my story.
