Ho-Hum!!!!!
(still lazy)

I've visited so many blogs in recent days where the hubbub of Christmas sewing is happening. So many are making holiday mug rugs, hot pads, tablerunners, placemats, quilts, wreaths, etc. No holiday sewing going on here - the laziness continues! :-(
*
Oh I had BIG (really BIG) plans and they look wonderful in my mind's eye but alas they remain in my mind's eye. LOL Oh, I was going to make something sweet for you, something cute for you, something adorable for you and something special for you. I guess it still could happen but.........
HMMM - how tacky would it be to assign my friends a month in 2011 and send them a little something for Christmas then? I mean, seriously, can you imagine receiving a Christmas gift in June? That would definitely be tacky. Well, it was a thought - LOL
Wait, may be you would enjoy it - pick a month. LOL

*
Every January I tell myself that I'm going to make lots of somethings for Christmas so when it's time to decorate I have all kinds of wonderful things. So, it's almost December and there's NOTHING!
*
If you're doing some holiday sewing I bow down to you and if you're in my camp - welcome! LOL *

Happy Holiday Sewing
One & All :-)

I am right in that camp with you. I think picking a month is a great idea. That way the pressure is spread out over a year and you don't get that crunch-time feeling. Maybe just the idea of homemade gifts is better. Can I just send an email saying "if I had time, I would make you ___" LOL! I guess not. I better get busy.

I hear you on making gifts this year. Until I retire, I just don't have any time to do that. I think July would be a good month to do gift exchanges. After the 4th celebration is over, it's a pretty boring month!!!!!

It's hard to find time to make all of the things we want to make that's for sure. No worries though, relax and enjoy the Christmas Season.

Well, Darlene, I'd pick January (my birthday month) or July (my wedding anniversary month) if you were serious! HAHA.

I've decided that the WIPS are getting out of hand so I've come up with a plan to whittle the pile in 2011...keep watching my blog to see what I've come up with.

Happy Thanksgiving...now we return you to your regular programming!

If you're not into it, you're not into it. Find another way to ENJOY the season Darlene!

I'll choose February! BY then, winter is just dragging on and Spring still seems like it will never arrive. I think a friend and I are going to have a tea this year, to cheer things up. Enjoy your holidays! You're allowed totake a break. I didn't do much all this past summer, and now I'm just brimming with ideas that I don't have time to bring to fruition.

Another year with no Christmas quilt!! I'm definitely in your camp. Can I be a Camp Counselor??

I did bind a quilt this weekend, but that is as close as I get to productivity!

I think I need a plan for next year... I'm gonna think on that.

You know I think that is the best idea I have ever heard. It really takes the pressure off. I'd pick April, cause that's my birthday month ;-)

I'm definitely in your camp Darlene! I did make three CHristmas presents and I have one more to do. But that's it for this year. I wouldn't mind Christmas in June...or July...or August! LOL

Well my sewing machine has grown cobwebs, but I hope to oil it up and get it running next week. ;-) (I hope!) LOL Maybe we can motivate each other~? Have a happy day doing whatever fun thing you find to do! Reading on the couch counts too! :-)

I am with you! The "big laziness" has hit me regarding my sewing. I also had so many gifts I wanted to make, but now it looks more of a mountain than something fun. And then I don't enjoy it anymore.
So I'd rather do something else, and when the fun returns to my previous projects, I will grab them head on.
Enjoy your relaxing time. You deserve it after having such a productive year.

hahaha...had to laugh...I could have written that, too! Every year I promise myself to sew lots of ornaments, finish my Christmas quilt, make a new table runner, and - most importantly - finally sew a tree skirt. And I'll end up with NOTHING.
I've finished a quilt for a dear friend last Sunday (it was a race against time and I actually won it) and I'm so exhausted that the mere thought of working wiht my trusty Nina makes me tired...:(...well, I still have time, don't I??? :)
Hugs, Julia

From reading the comments looks like we are all in the same boat. You words came right out of my head, I always do the same thing. Don't worry your not the only one, just relax and enjoy this time of year.
I want to start some baking soon, not lots but a few special things.

I am enjoying being lazy too! But I do want to sew!!!! I like your idea of Christmas all year long!!! A different month for each family....hmmmm!

Carol said...

I like your idea...not tacky at all...Christmas all year long...that would be lots of fun!

I am definately in Camp Darlene!
I have very little time to sew for me, so sewing for someone else, even though its a lovely idea, just is not gonna happen!
I have three, yes three costumes to fully sequin and/or detail before 15th January... and a few BOM's to catch up on.. am I starting to stress? Um yes! Did I mention I work full time and am doing two correspondence classes as well???

Lissa
where it isn't exactly sewing weather in Australia - it was 95F yest. not sure yet whats gonna happen today!

I'll pick March - I think that is a terrific idea and maybe I'll be a copycat and do it too.

I never try to make things for christmas unless I plan super early in the year - like starting in January - to make something. I just won't put that stress on myself. I have lots of things I "like" to do at christmas, and sitting at the machine straining to finish things and not enjoying it, is NOT one of them.

Enjoy the lazies - they are a special rejuventating time - and we could all use that.

Which month would you like us to send you your christmas presents? We'll need your address please. :-)

Oh, I'd like to be in the former but feel sure I'll be in the latter camp! I'm hoping to find time to do some little somethings for the gals at work. Fortunately there are only a few of them as we are a very small office.

I am so with you, Darlene! LOL! I had big plans on making Christmas gifts, yet I haven't started one! Too funny!

I tell ya...I hear myself in you. We do what we can this is for sure. Just enjoy the season!!

Well Darlene, I did some holiday sewing...kind of...I still need to bind the 20" square table topper I made on the one and only day I sewed in my new sewing room since it was set up,(other and a few minutes hit and miss over the week). The binding is cut, it was going to be on my table for Thanks giving, my very first applique block in the center of the topper...and there it sits, with the happy little snowman waving out the window to everyone, who never got to see him. I do hope I get it done and on the table in the family room soon because...the contractor came today as we are giving our upstairs living room, bathroom and hallway a 'facelift' starting Monday and continuing through the end of January!!! UGH...what a mess we will be in for Christmas, the family room downstairs will be okay but cluttered with upstairs treasures *sigh*. Talk about killing the sewing spirit, LOL. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. We have lived here 32 years and have only changed carpeting and paint. OH, we've done a few minor improvments but never anything on this scale. BUT, when it's finished, it will be really nice so I am excited that it is being done, just hesitant about the timing. Ah well, too late now, the ugly, really old paneling that we put on the living room walls back before we had to raise the grandkids (which is what postponed this for so many years) is now off the walls and outside waiting to be hauled away, so it's too late to turn back now, LOL. Okay, that was a really long way to tell you, I'm in your camp, sadly there will be not holiday or thank you gifts going out from me for a few months. I had big plans with my new sewing room but once again, life is getting in the way of ... well, life, LOL. Big hugs my friend...

I don't know about you, but I just don't have time in December to create gifts...so I would have to spread the making of them out. I think August would be the perfect month for an exchange of gifts...birthday month for me.

Sherri said...

I don't think your idea is tacky at all! One year one of our neighbors delivered treats to the whole neighborhood in September...for Christmas...I though it was wonderful! February is always a great month for doing things for people you didn't get things finished for in December!

The holiday weekend has been a great sewing festival at our house. I am actually doing pretty well on gifts and finishes, but doubt I will actually make my goal. The gift a month thing sounds good to me, though. Sometimes people get gifted-out from too much stuff during the holidays. By March, everyone will be looking forward to something new and nice again.

Oh Darlene - you are not the only one!!!!

Isn't it funny how that January resolution comes around every year -- and we think we have so much time to get gifts done and then suddenly, here we are again! We all need a pill or something!

Allie said...

ROFL - I do this EVERY YEAR - one time I decided in October to make everybody a quilt, and I think I was sewing binding on Christmas Eve. No more. I sew for my pleasure, not for stress, right?
I do like your idea of sending things once a month in 2011. I may have to adopt that.

Janet said...

You crack me up but I have to admit I'm in the same boat as you.
I don't think your idea is tacky in the slightest, we should keep the spirit of giving alive no matter what time of year it is.

QuiltSue said...

I think your idea is a great one, I might just do that next year.

My big plan for 2010 was to make one small Chriastmas craft a month..how did I do? I made a craft the day after Thanksgiving, so I guess I'm in your camp! LOL

PunkiePie (Jen) said...

I actually LIKE your idea! Takes the pressure of November and December to get the gifts done. I say give it a try!

Relax and enjoy the Christmas season, Elaine. You are such a giving person and I like your idea of picking a month, the end of the year is just too crazy.

I always start with the best of intentions, but manage to get sidetracked every year! I have stuff (Christmas craft projects) on my sewing room floor that I am stepping over, rather than dealing with it!!

I haven't gotten to Christmas sewing too..don't feel too badly.

I have the same problem...lots of big ideas in my mind! Don't have as much time as I have ideas!
BTW...I pick June! LOL

who says you have to give gifts at Christmas. It is fun to give all year long. Don't feel guilty. Enjoy the season.

Debi said...

I know the feeling as well. I hope you have a wonderful next couple of days. HOwever, any gift from you would be awesome, no matter when it arrived!

Dresden Quilter said...

Christmas in June would be great for me! That's when my birthday is. I am definitely in your camp. I have Christmas quilts ready to make, but don't have one yet. I am going to be getting my first one back from the quilter's in a couple of weeks.

I love the idea of one a month!

Nanette Merrill said...

I feel exactly the same way. This year seems like a dud for me in a lot of ways. It just doesn't seem like things are going to come together. I am just hoping to get a tree up this week!

Carrie said...

Slide over. Make room for moi. Christmas sewing? Yeah, right. I had that plan too. It was in my book... ;)

So I'll choose July. It will be hot to do anything outside so we'll just sit inside and make Christmas presents. That we won't finish. How about we sit inside and make plans for the Christmas presents we would make if we were organized?

Kim said...

I am in your camp for sure.. do you think we could make s'mores.. they don't take much thought. I have keep saying if I have time.. but, unless you make time there is none. I feel better knowing someone else is where I am....

Red Geranium Cottage said...

Gifts are good whenever they arrive at your doorstep Missy!!! I just don't seem to have enough time to get anything done lately. How does Christmas sneak up on us all so quick every year?? Seems like the older we get the faster it arrives.
So I guess what I'm saying is your not alone!!! :-) We're all here with ya. Happy Holidays, Love, Miz Thang!!

Darlene B said...

Since my birthday is Dec. 21, and it gets lost in with Christmas, I would LOVE to receive a gift in June!

Lorraine said...

I always have big plans....that look good in my minds eye too! Usually I get disappointed that I haven't made/done all I thought I might do for Christmas...but this year.....I am not beating myself up...what gets done ...gets done...and what doesn't will either wait....or never get finished...LOL

Kelly@ Charming Chatter said...

So in your camp - and bummed about it! I am seriously going to get some stockings sewn in the next couple of weeks - and get some gifts done too! I think anyone would be grateful for a sweet gift from you - any month of the year! I know because I've gotten one every month this year -and I'm so grateful (we almost have our quilt)!

John'aLee said...

You crack me up. Whether you have any 'Christmasy' things or not....you made me laugh!! So a big hug to you girl!

Hey there "Wonder Quilter" *on vacation*...just thinkin about ya and hoping all is well. Big Hugs coming to you...

What about the Fatquartershop mystery quilt that you are working on. That will be ready for next Christmas. See you are ahead of the game already.

Shelina said...

I wouldn't mind waiting until July! But anything after that is way too late. LOL

I am barely squeaking out one quilty gift this month! This is a terrible time to have lost my sewing mojo, but it seems that I have! I'm more interested in decorating for Christmas and at least enjoying that a lot. Perhaps we simply cannot do it all? :-D Looks like you have a lot of other activities and fun to share with friends ~ it's all very good!!
