Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

We're embarking on a new journey in our household. Tomorrow I'm flying to Texas and on Tuesday my mom and I will be driving back here. I won't bore you with all the details; she's been suffering with some short term cognitive impairment for a few months now. My sister has been bearing the burden of caring for our mom and simply can't handle it anymore. As a family and with advice from her doctor we've decided that she should come stay with us for a few months through the holidays until Feb/Mar. Time will tell but we won't be surprised if it becomes a permanent move.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Life has been full of challenges for so many this year - illness, finances, loss of loved ones, etc. Please take a few minutes to be thankful for all the gifts you have in your life. There's so much 'stuffus' in our lives that simply doesn't matter (really it just doesn't) - we can't do anything about yesterday, we don't know what tomorrow holds, however today is NOW. Enjoy every minute of today - things can change very quickly. I've been trying to live my days this way for a couple of months and it's working for me.

Safe travels, sweetie.

I just read an interview with Maya Angelou in "Southern Living." When asked how she celebrates the season, she replied, "I try to see every day as a celebration ... So every day I awaken I am grateful. My intent is to be totally present in that day. And laugh as much as possible." That stuck with me, and your comments are along the same lines. Sage advice from both of you!!

Great post---I'm envious of you getting the time with your mom. She took care of you for a lotta years--- it's just your turn... Remember Mark Twain said, " it's not the things you do that you regret...it's the things you don't." Keep a sense of humor and it will all work out....
P.S. your kids are watching your example....

As someone who has been dealing with my mother's Alzheimer's for the past 6 years..caring for her on an island in Alaska and returning to my home in Oregon for as many as 5 very expensive trips a year...moving mom in with you will be easier and trust me, a challenge but such a blessing in both of your lives. Safe journeys in all ways!!!!!

So true Darlene. We too learned this year how much "stuffus" we can get bogged down in. My best present for Christmas ever is that David is cancer free for now. I really don't want anything else..just him and my boys around the Christmas table, laughing and joking and makeing memories!

Safe travels, Darlene. We've been trying to get my mom to move in with us for several years....she's getting close but still not ready to give up her independence. I envy you to chance to have your mom with you thru the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving.

Safe travels, my friend.

Keep your Mom close because you'll never fill the void once she's gone.

Yes this year has been a challenge for sure.
I try to ask these questions: What's the worst that can happen?
Am I doing the best that I can?
What am I doing to relax?
Just answering these questions, even if it's difficult sometimes, can put me back on the right path.
May your travelling be safe, your mind clear and your heart open to receive many blessings. Happy Thanksgiving

A great thought - to take each day as it comes. We've had so much contact with drastic scary instant changes this year too - and it really makes one stop and think about what is really important. It also makes me think about how transient even the troubled times are.

I think it is wonderful that your mother has family that loves and cares for her in stressful times - our best to you and your family in this adventure.

We're at the same place different details as you. Your Mom is blessed to have you and Mr. Daze. At this stage, our parents just need us to love them.

Warm wishes to you and yours, hoping for a successful move of your mother to a new environment. How quickly our lives can change. The little things fade into the background with important things like our parents' welfare and safety and contentment.

Bless you as we move from one holiday to the next.
