A few weeks ago while 'hermitting' I was thinking about and planning future quilting projects. I decided it would be fun to challenge myself to make a project featuring some Moda precuts (i.e. a charm pack, layer cake, jelly roll, honey bun, fat eighth bundle and fat quarter bundle). I started looking through books, patterns, Pinterest, etc. It's been a daunting task because there are so many fabulous patterns available for precuts. Whew!!!
Since I couldn't decide on patterns for every precut I decided to just get started.
Doing often leads to inspiration.
Friday morning I cleaned and oiled my sewing machine; wound a bunch of bobbins and selected a charm pack of Avalon that Carol had given me when we met with Cheryl for lunch in March. It took me forever to decide on a project. I chatted with one friend who had tons of suggestions but then I chatted with another friend, Carol and she suggested I use it to make one of the mini quilts from Simply Charming (duh - why didn't I think of that? LOL) We went through the book together and found a pattern that would work. woohoo!!!
I'll show a picture of my mini Simply Charming quilt tomorrow after I quilt it - it'll look much better than it does now. :-)
That mini quilt didn't take long so I decided to move on to a project using a layer cake.
I cut 10" squares from my Hometown (by Sweetwater for Moda) fat quarter bundle. So, is it a project using a layer cake or a project using a fat quarter bundle? LOL
I made a Twister quilt using the large layer cake template.
I've made a couple of Twister quilts using the smaller templates and while I had fun making those I never felt comfortable cutting around the templates. I feared I would cut off the tips of my fingers with my rotary cutter. ACK!!! Quite frankly, I've grown accustomed to having those finger tips. LOL
I was instantly smitten with the larger template so I had tons of fun!
Needless to say I love, love, love the quilt top, too. teehee!
This layer cake of Sunkissed (also by Sweetwater for Moda) like the Hometown fat quarter bundle had been in my closet for a long time.
When I rolled out of bed this morning I knew exactly what I was going to do today.
Can you guess?

If you guessed another Twister quilt, you're absolutely right!
I'm becoming a pro at these cuties. LOL
Now I want to dig in my closet and find layer cakes to make more Twister quilts.
Please don't send the men in the white coats!

A project with either a jelly roll, honeybun, fat eighth bundle or fat quarter bundle is up next - what to do, what to do?
I'm glad I decided to do this self challenge with Moda precuts because it's forcing me to look for and use fabric I'd forgotten I had. So often I get caught up in the latest and newest that I forget about the past latest and newest that I had to have.
I hope your days have been as pieceful as mine.
In Friendship!

Look at you go! Amazing quilts! I'm glad you've taken this challenge because it's one I need to take, too! You're such a good inspiration!!
Never made a Twister piece,But I do love those fabrics. The pattern brings them out as well. Great job.
WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL! You know me, I'm up on my chair clapping loudly for you! I'm so happy that you're having FUN! Lovin' those twisters!
Your precuts projects all look fabulous! I always wished I'd gotten some of that sunkissed! Those fabrics are so bright and cheerful! :0)
I am going to have to give the twister a try, such a fun looking quilt top!
I wonder what you made with the charm pack? I have been trying to figure out how to use one that I won. I think I found a table runner that will work. But, I have several more in a drawer! Deciding how to use them is the hardest part.
Love the fact that you are digging into your stash, sewing, and having fun! I do love those twister quilts!
I adore quilts made with the large twister templates...really shows off the fabrics! When you get inspired, you really can get things done!
love you twister quilts, what a great challenge for yourself. I feel the same way about the little twister templates---do not want to cut off the fingertips! It is so easy to forget previous fabric acquisitions when they come out with such lovely new stuff every 3 minutes :)
love your twister quilts, they are so fun to make. I have only made a couple pillows using the smaller tool now I need to make a quilt with the bigger one thanks for the inspiration.

Your Mojo is back! Great twister quilt. I thought Nancy was the Twister queen but you may have dethroned her. LOL I look forward to your next projects and seeing that mini you teased us with.
Wow! I am such a fan of precuts... love having a whole line of fabric in a cute little bundle! You are on a roll...
Both of these are so cool! I have the big Twister & the Layer Cakes - gotta put them together.
I'm also trying to work from my rather plump stash of Moda pre-cuts. I find it easier to cut into the older ones...I think that's because I can justify getting new pre-cuts if I use some of of the stash. Always looking for justification - LOL!
I've made the smaller Twister as well but not the bigger one. They both are fantastic looking quilts. I'm so happy you are having fun!
You are always amazing! I love the quilts. I am starting to get more pieceful. I am working on a big Twister quilt for my daughter right now. I am just a bit undecided about the border fabric.
Cute quilts and fabric choices! I love the twister quilts - I just bought the ruler but haven't done anything with them yet. This weekend I made half square triangles with charm packs. You get a charm pack from a line and a charm pack of solids and make half square triangles - I've turned them into chevron quilts, star quilts- possibilities are endless! Also - Camille from Thimbleblossoms has a pattern called Jelly Field that works great for jelly rolls and pint sized is a similiar pattern for honeybuns. They are so cute! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
You are too funny. I have a Twister ruler, I'll have to get it out so I can play too.
LOVE!! I have a layer cake of Hometown and was thinking a Twister quilt too; how big did it end up?? Great bunch of quilties.
Your twisters make me want to dig mine out and get er done! Would love to see how you finish them - ie with borders etc? I was worried about cutting off my fingers too! LOL... but I think I will dig out the largest ruler first!
I love your twister quilts. I've never tried one, but they look fun! I love all the precuts out there and recently purchased some "mini" or "candy" charm packs. Now to find a pat6tern for them. I'm so happy you are enjoying all your "new" fabrics and projects. Can't wait to see what you choose for "Simply Charming". Have fun! Nola
The men in the white coats can't come over...they are busy here with me! LOL!
LOVE LOVE the twisters! Especially love the sunkissed one...what a great line of happy fabric that is!
Good for you, looks like you got your mojo back, no more hermitting. Have to love the Twister, It's so fun to see to see them come together.
I always have difficulty deciding what to do with pre-cuts. Thus, I do not purchase them very often. I do like the variety you get in a pack of charm squares or the 10" square packs.
I love Moda pre cuts. I have such a collection. Good on you for challenging yourself to use them. I like what you have done with them.
Hi Darlene!!! Wow, you truly are in your Wonder Quilter mode aren't you??? LOL. Wonderful projects and I love the fabrics! Sunkissed was always a favorite of mine, eventhough I never did get to purchase any. My stash is not yet to the point that I can't see it all in one sweep of the eye as I go into my sewing room, but I'm planning on someday having forgotten treasures to 'rediscover'. For now, no sewing going on, I'm battling Shingles *again* but I just had to check in on my favorite blogs, I was going into withdrawl, not to mention going crazy sleeping so much and laying around so much. Ah, but this too shall pass. Sending big but gentle and germ free hugs sweet friend...Can't wait to see what you 'find' next. Hugs (again) Have a wonderful week.
Wowzer Beautiful!! I still haven't started the mini challenge and now you are doing a precut challenge. I just bought a twister kit at a shop on Friday with the big twister ruler and layer cake. I may have to sew it up today and cut it back up tomorrow. Nice scissors:)
Wow, you are on a roll! I like the twister quilts too and want to do more. I've used the small ruler but I just won the big one at my guild and I have a layer cake so...I guess I'll try this one out. Thanks for the inspiration. I can't wait to see your mini.
Loving your quilts - and boy do I need the inspiration, I have a ton of charm packs I need to use! Thanks Darlene!
Love your Twister quilt, Darlene. I bought the big Twister ruler and should give it a try. Your quilt is beautiful.
Well done, great work.just want to say keep it up..

Was surfing the web this morning looking for some a Sunkissed FQ bundle or a layer cake! So funny to read your post! I was consigning myself to make a 5-inch twister table topper with the one little charm pack I have! Was wondering how the big Twister does with Layer cakes! Does it make a good size quilt?
And I just ordered the Little Twister. Think I am going to be a Twister Junkie too!
Have fun! And great post!!
Very nice..
