edited to add the correct question for #5
Hello Friends,
Hello Friends,
Life at my house has been a bit boring.
I'm not ignoring you but I haven't had anything to blog about. Sigh :-)
Yes, we're on Baby Sister watch (still no name and nursery is in the works) :-)
Since I don't have anything to share I'd take a few minutes to tell you about Deb @ http://asimplelifequilts.blogspot.com
I don't know if she found me or I found her but either way we've had some fun e-mail conversations. I've watched Deb work her way through quite a few UFOs with lots of dedication. Actually, I've been in awe. Rather than try to tell you about Deb, I asked Deb to answer a few questions. If you have a few minutes please visit Deb - you'll be in awe, as well.
I tried to add a picture from Deb's blog but sadly I failed.
You'll find lots of wonderful pictures when you visit her blog. :-)
1. How long have you been quilting?
I took a beginning class in 2002 - so taking out my 3 year hiatus it's
been 8 years.
2. How long ago did you stop quilting and when did you come back to it?
I fell off a step ladder while stripping wallpaper in September 2009 (4
years ago tomorrow actually!) and badly broke my right leg. Ironically that was
going to be my 1st quilting room. I had surgery and spent 6 days in the
hospital followed by 12 weeks of no weight bearing, a blood clot and months of
physical therapy. All of my crafty mo-jo vanished and I didn't sew one stitch
until I started quilting again in late September 2012.
3. How many UFO's did you discover when you returned to quilting?
My 1st count last October was 88... but I found 13 more later for a
total of 101.
4. Have you worked only on UFO's or have you thrown in a new project or two?
I've finished 65 projects since 10/1/2012 and 56 have been UFOs - so yes
I have thrown in a few new projects but they have been mostly table topper size
or smaller! My UFO Reward System gives me a new large project after I finish 10
UFOs and I give myself some leeway on small projects as long as I finish them!
I know it sounds strict but it seems silly to work so hard at finishing while
creating more at the same time. At the the start of 2013 I decided to take this
year and really focus on UFOs. My word for the year is FINISH. I've struggled
with procrastination and finishing things my whole life so this has really been
life changing for me.
5. What have you discovered you missed about quilting?
This is a great question Darlene! I've done many different crafts over
the years because I grew up in a creative family. My Mom sewed most of our
clothes and taught me to sew in my early teens. I went to college to be an
architect and ended up being a CPA - it seems like I try to shut down my
creative side at times and no good comes from that! I love to play with colors,
patterns and have always loved fabric so quilting really hits home for me. I
think it is wonderful therapy too. Simply said - doing something creative just
makes me a happier person.
6. What do you do with all your completed UFO's.
Here comes the accountant side of me (lol!). 33 of my 56 finished UFOs
have been donated to Project Linus or other charity groups. I love making
bright quilts with fun novelty fabrics for kids. I get to try new color
combinations, new patterns and new techniques so it's a total win win situation.
I've given 8 away as gifts and the remaining 15 are here with me. It makes me
so happy to finally see quilts being used in my home.
Forgot to add - my Dad's craft was woodworking. I have beautiful
pieces of furniture and other items he has made throughout my home. He has kind
of given it up as he's gotten older and that is sad. I really should do a blog
post about it!
Please visit the creative spot in her home where all the magic happens.
