I Miss My 'Nest"
There's been some discussion on the PrimitiveFolkApplique2 yahoo group regarding stitching spots in your home. By the way, I love that group - I don't participate much but I love to see what they're up to. I just lurk. teehee
Until we moved into our current home two years ago I had a spot to stitch - what I referred to as my 'Nest'. My favorite chair and my little red cabinet where I could store and hide my current only-by-hand project(s). In this home my little red cabinet sits off all alone in a spot (just cuz there's room there). I sit on the end of the sectional sofa/couch. I have a tendency to pile stuff on the cushion to my right and I'm just not comfortable. The arm of the sofa on my left is a bit too high - it's too cushy - yada, yada, yada. LOL My DH is very accommodating and keeps telling me that we need to figure out a spot for me but quite frankly it just won't work in our greatroom like it has in the past. Sigh!
I want to tell you about little red cabinet - just cause I love it and have a need to share. :-) I saw that 'apothecary' style chest in a JC Penney ad one Sunday morning 15 years ago and knew I had to have it. I watched the clock and was at the store when they opened. I was so excited I could hardly stand it. Well, they didn't have any in stock so I ordered it and waited patiently for it's arrival. It appears to have eleven drawers but in reality there are only three. It's a perfect cabinet for a stitcher's nest - wouldn't you agree?
A friend stopped by one day and noticed my cabinet and said that since I wasn't really using it she'd buy it from me - not NO but heck NO!!! LOL
Do you have a spot in your home? Your own special 'Nest'. I'd love it if you'd share a picture. :-)
Thanks for visiting!

I LOVE< LOVE>LOVE> your cabinet!!! My nest is like your's...I just can't find THE spot. I'm usually on the end of the sofa too with two wienie dogs up there with me, and I just cannot get comfortable. That may be one of the reasons I accomplish so little in sewing. :/ I belong to PFA too...as a lurker also ROFL...are you sure you're not my twin that was separated from me at birth??? ROFL
I love your red cabinet. I love everything about. It's no wonder she wanted to take it off your hands!
My favorite spot isn't picture worthy but it's on a couch upstairs by a window that lets in a lot of light. I feel like I'm up in a loft amongst the tree limbs.
Cute cabinet. dh was looking at it and asking if it's something I would like him to make. Lately, I haven't found the right spot to do hand work. So I bring it with me every where I can. I spend a lot of time in my sewing room and have thought of arranging it in such a way where I could have a confy chair. The problem is that the washer and dryer are in that room. So it's really not all mine. We won't get into dd's need to make a place for herself every where in the house! ;o) Once we have all the renovations done I think I'll be able to claim a spot. My favourite yellow room has been used as a guest room this summer. Keep well!
Hi Darlene, just popping in to return your "hi" and leave another one for you *VBS* Thanks for the memory 'bump', I've been soooo pre-occupied with the blog hiccups that have taken 3 days to clean up, that I got side tracked from my 'giftie' mission!
YES!! It's you! You were the first name drawn on the evening of the 12th.
I see that you were lucky with someone else's drawing on the 10th...YOU are on a roll girl!!!
Please do send me your snail mail addy, at Finn922000@yahoo.com
And I did see your post about your block, but it wasn't with the 21 that arrived from Jeanne. It might be out there today, I haven't been out yet. It took 6 full scan attempts but I finally got the computer and my Norton AntiVirus speaking to each other and 1 successful scan completed!!!
Along with the rest I signed up to do the Pay It Forward over at thea quilts, and haven't had a chance to post it as yet!
Have fun with your..*VBS* Love the cabinet by the way.So sorry to hear you still haven't found a nest for yourself..*S* Hugs, Finn
What a great little cabinet. My "in progress" stuff is in a bin/shelf arrangement thing I got a Target a few years ago. For something that I THINK was meant to help you organize your bathroom, it works well for my current stuff. The rest -- well, that's an entirely different story.
I'm envious of your red cabinet, I've always wanted one. Someday I will get one. I don't really have a "nest" in our new house yet. I bought a new comfy chair that I thought would be it but I need a foot stool to make it just right. DH put a chair and light in his computer room so I could sit and stitch while he is working on the computer, that is one of the places I nest.
I LOVE your cabinet and was really surprised when I read it was new. I thought it looked antique. Very impressive.
I'm like you and end up on one end of the couch with my project strewn along the length of the couch beside me. This works ok actually but it is a pain packing up every time.
I love your cabinet. What a treasure! I just showed my nest a while ago on my blog. I have my sewing room, but I have a spot on the end of my couch for hand quilting. I showed that set up not long ago too.
My nest is a older Lazy Boy recliner that belonged to my DMIL. It's perfect for me because it's smaller and I have shorter than average legs.
I have piles and baskets all around me and am constantly trying to tidy up the area, but it is comfortable for me. Hope you find a spot soon.
I found yoru blog from your comment you made on "the thread and I" blog. You mentioned that you wanted to find a swap of 3" finished 9-patches.
Well there is an Yahoo group called "Block_Swappers" and they are just now beginning their 3rd round of 3" finished 9-patch blocks. I hope you can join in. This group is fairly new and they swap a good variety of blocks but the 9-patch is ever so popular.
Here's the group's link. Happy Weekend. :c) ~Bonnie in SE Texas

I haven't found my nesting spot in this house. Right now I'm on the end of an uncomfortable sofa with my Nelly table on the arm.
Love your red cabinet! I've been looking for eons for a pine chest like that.
that is the best red cabinet I've ever seen. I love anything red. I would have snagged that thing the minute I saw it. Great find. I'll have to take a a picture of my sewing area in the living room tomorrow. After I tidy it up of course. By the way, did you see Miz Doe is back in business?? WOO HOO
That cabinet is lovely!!!.....i stitch anywhere and everywhere, in the car, while im cooking dinner but my favorite nest is "my recliner" with my craft bag full of cottons and WIP's down the side....i rarely hand sew in my sewing room although DH put a couch in there for me lol
Wonderful cabinet you have!
I don't have a nest - I NEED one!
That cabinet is gorgeous! I guess my "nest" is my entire craft room! I have a very large, messy nest! LOL! Actually, my nest is wherever I nestle in with my stitching and my wiener dogs! A person cannot sit down in my house without two wiener girls on their lap! They are such snugglers.
What a great piece - it could surely come live comfortably in my place . . . temporarily, don't you know *s*
My goodness you have been busy! The whole cloth looks fabulous, I must try on sometime...the blocks look wonderfula nd happy...and I am glad that you let go of the frustration and just decided to get happy and flow with the sewing! I get that way too when I have too many things to contend with.
LOVE the cabinet! I wish they had a few more drawers but three is good. The perfect place. Maybe you could stick a little slipper chair next to it?
