A few months ago I decided to participate in a swap on the Kathy Tracy's Yahoo Board and ironically I was paired with Kaaren of The Painted Quilt. We were stunned but happy! :-)
While searching for 'the' quilt I remembered I had this book from Primitive Gatherings. It only took a few minutes to find 'the' quilt. I'll show you Kaaren's quilt further down in the post.
The small quilt required twelve 1.5" finished 'negative' nine patches. If you follow the method in the book to make nine patches you end up with an equal number of 'negative' and 'positive' nine patches. Negative - the lights are in the corners and center; Positive - the darks are in the corners and center. Easy peasy!
This is the small quilt I sent Kaaren. It's called "Little Red" in the book. You can see I needed 12 'negative' nine patches but now I had 12 'positive' nine patches seriously taunting me. LOL Earlier this week I finally had a plan for the menacing nine patches and then remembered I'd cut enough squares to make more. So I got busy making another set of positive and negative nine patches for two more small quilts.
Here are the resulting three small quilts - the one on the right was made with the 'positive' nine patches I had from making Kaaren's quilt. The other quilts were made with a new set of 'positive' and 'negative' nine patches. Do you see the HUGE error I made? Obviously my mind was drifting but 'it is what it is'. Sigh! ;-)
Which is your favorite?
I'm really having a ton of fun with my "snippets of fabric and time" and find myself smiling :-) everytime I finish one. So, while chatting with a friend the other night I was trying to explain how I feel while making my small quilts ---- the first word that came to mind was GIDDY!!!! Yep, I feel very, very GIDDY everytime I finish one. A grown woman feeling GIDDY is not a bad thing, is it? LOL
Thank you so much for popping in to visit with me! Christmas Through The Year posts will resume on Monday - thank you for your patience.
In Friendship!

These are so adorable. I loved making the Schnibbles because they were fun and quilt to make. Nothing like a quick fix to make one "Giddy"!
Sorry that was supposed to say "QUICK to make" ;-D
Those are simply the sweetest things! And no, I do not see any glaring mistake. So my mind is in the same shape as yours! :) Very nice use of your snippets.

I love them all, but I really like the ones with the tan backgrounds.
Cute, cute cute! I don't see any error so you needn't point it out. I like the one with the red background best!
Glad you could find some time to sew for yourself! And yes, I see the mistake but it's not so glaring. If I look out my window heading West, I can't see it at all! LOL
The quilts are darling, but I can't imagine making 1 1/2" blocks. I would have to make the larger size or go crazy trying to make such little blocks. Good for you.
Yummy little quilt, Darlene!
They are all adorable and I love them all - and yes, being giddy can be a good thing!!!!
I *think* I see the error but if that's it, no error in my eyes. They all look great. Very cute.
The red background quilt is my favorite. I don't see any mistake. They are the cutest quits.
I just don't see any error...they're just plain cute!
Those are very cute - and I'm not seeing the huge error, even after looking carefully, so I don't think it's too huge, or else my mind thinks like yours!
Nice job - I like the red background best, but they are all nice. I have that book, too - this may inspire me to get it out and finally do something with it. A cheddar background would be fun, too!
Very cute! I think I know why you think there is an error, but I love the red one! And it sure looks like a lot of fun!! Have a happy day!
I like the red background best. You and I ought to do a swap some time.
I like them all. Make a small quilt is a great way to accomplish something. I know Kaaren will love it.
I want to make one of these sooooon. I love the red/maroon best. I see no glaring error unless you were trying to layout the two positive exactly alike. Hope you tell me what these alleged transgression is! LOL!
Keep on sewing!
