3" Nine Patches

My 3" nine patch cuties have a home! I finished piecing the quilt top late this afternoon and it feels good to have another one done. Actually it feels good to have another fat quarter bundle/tower out of the cupboard and into a quilt. :-) That makes me extremely happy! LOL This is was a quick and fun pattern from Moda University.

Thanks to Evelyn I've been doing quite a bit of thinking about my pile of quilt tops that are waiting to be quilted. I've been trying to decide whether or not my quilt tops are UFO's and everyone has been kind and told me that they're my quilt tops so I can call them whatever I want. LOL I appreciate that very much. However, Evelyn left a comment regarding her definition of UFO's and the following profound statement really touched my heart. Evelyn said " You can't USE a top, even if the top is technically done. I don't want my "tops" to end up in a yard sale some day - BUT finished QUILTS are cherished for years!!!" Evelyn, you are absolutely right - you can't use a quilt top and while I don't necessarily make heirlooms I do want to leave my quilting legacy to my daughter. (although she and my DH tease me that if I go first they are going to set up on a corner and hang my quilts on a clothesline and sell them - LOL) So, I've decided that over the next couple of days I'm going to organize all my quilt tops with backings and such and prepare to quilt them. Evelyn, thank you very much!

I love the quilt. It's beautiful. Have fun revisiting all your old 'friends' in the quilt tops.

What a great top! Love the use of nine patches. I think Evelyn hit the nail on the head. If someone inherited my tops, would they know what to do with them? But if someone inherited my quilts, they'd know right away! Good luck working on those tops - hope to see more photos as you work through the pile!

Darlene...what a wonderful quilt. I love it. Wow! I think Evelyn is so right. I always just thought of mine as tops...but I'm thinking differently now. Going to get them organized and start getting them quilted. Thanks for sharing her insight.

Wow, Darlene, that quilt top is gorgeous! I love it and it went together so quickly! Well, it is YOU we're talking about here, mine most likely would take months. This one's definitely on my to-do list. Yay for another bundle that's found a beautiful home!

Oh, such a sweet, sweet quilt. Love the colors and Nine Patch blocks are a favorite. Congrats!

Yep, it would be a shame for those lovelies to be stuck on a clothesline someday. I hope they were just teasing you but it could happen.

Love the top and hope it doesn't stay unquilted long.

Evelyn is so right - though I've been known to bring out a quilt top and use it in seasonal decorating when the fancy strikes me. That's why I consider all my finished quilt tops to be UFO's.

yes, Evelyn did put it exactly right-so good luck in tackling those quilt tops and turning them into snuggly, wuggly quilts! your latest top turned out great.

Well, this one sure is a beauty. Have fun finishing your tops into quilts. I can't wait to see them.

Oh, those little blocks are cuties! And the border finishes it off nicely!

Ha, like Patti, I sometimes put out a top as part of a seasonal display. But I only allow myself to use a top that way one time: by the next year it MUST become a real quilt.

love your top and agree with Evelyn. I have several tops with backings and bindings all done!! just need to quilt them. I need to get some of those done!!

Speedy as usual. The top is gorgeous looking and I really love that fabric line!!

I think it's a good idea to start spending some time getting the quilting done. I ahve to pace myself, but I do need to get it done too!

It is a wonderful top... I love the color scheme! As soon as I use up some more stash I just might have to treat myself to a fat quarter tower!

Good luck with your quilting. My Nana had 2 sons, my aunt had 0 children. Between them, they made many, many quilts. Lucky me, because those 2 sons went on to have 9 children and we ALL got at least 1 quilt from those (I am super lucky because I have 3 of them!). So, you never know... AND, ONE of those quilts was my jumping point to get serious about quilting and has brought me years of joy, recreation, quilting, etc!!! So, very much worth finishing. My aunt died years before I was even born, but I have something that she created! The stacks and stacks of blocks that I remember from my childhood - I haven't seen them in YEARS so who knows whatever happened to them? Yes, a FINSIHED quilt is truly cherished!

Cheers!

Evelyn

Wow - that is amazing. Have you done nothing else except sew for the last couple of days? I love how it's turned out and once again, your colour choices are just perfect.

Darlene...again another beautiful quilt.

What a coincidence but i was also thinking the same thing the other day about my quilt tops. I was looking in the cupboard and realised i have a few that need to be quilted so i am planning as my October-December goals to quilt them. Hope you'll find time to quilt some also.

What a wonderful quilt top, oh the colors are dreamy.

Love the nine patch.

All that talk about quilt tops. Mine are marinating for a bit longer. I am hoping to get a Little Gracie or something like that and then I will learn to machine quilt. Sending them to a LA quilter is wonderful but you do have to pay them.

Cute quilt - the smallest nine patch blocks I make are 4.5 inches finished!

Quilt tops don't bother me because I feel someone will eventually finish them - maybe even my family since my Mom and sisters quilt. UFO's that haven't reached the finished top stage however will probably never get finished if something happens to me so they do bother me.

Besides it's great to have finished tops in case you need a quick quilt for someone.

Thanks for showing us the finished quilt. This one is cute! I also like Evelyn's comment on what a UFO is--I thinks she hit the nail on the head! I too have a lot of tops that are pieced but not quilted--not much good to anyone until they are quilted and bound.

What a great quilt! I have a stack of 3-inch nine-patches and I may 'borrow' your idea.
