Just In Case!

When I work on a block of the month project I have a tendency to keep all the scraps from each block in a handy zip lock bag - just in case!

I was really glad Thursday evening when I was working on my Designer Mystery Block #6, designed by The Pattern Basket for The Fat Quarter Shop. I made a major boo-boo - see my flying geese unit in my picture - it's definitely wrong! This is the first block that has used the darker background fabric so I didn't have any scraps but I needed a 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangle. Even in the scraps I had left from this block I didn't have a piece big enough. I didn't panic I just sewed two pieces together and "made" a larger piece of fabric then cut my required rectangle - I cut new pieces of the green and brown florals and completed my flying geese unit. WooHoo! You have too look really close at my block to spot my 'band aid'. And, I do plan to save the incorrect flying geese unit - just in case! :-)

Thank you for letting me share - do you do anything like this?

And, thank you for all the compliments on my Itty Bitty Baskets - they really are a lot of fun and now I have a plethora of finishing ideas. I have a squillion baskets to make so it'll be awhile before this project is completed. :-)

I appreciate your visits - ya'll come back!

In Friendship!

OK...I enlarged the picture and still can't find the mistake. You're good! Very pretty colors.

Very ingenious! Just like our quilting foremothers - using all the scraps! I can't even see the repair...are you sure it's there???
Just how many is a squillion??!!

I started cutting that block yesterday late afternoon and decided I was too tired to focus on that one...it was a little tricky. I'll tackle it today.

Good save! I also keep my scraps together until I'm done. I've been bailed out numerous times because I did that!

Great minds think alike! ;o) I do the same, you just never know! Hugs!

Lovely block - I can't wait until I get mine!! It looks like a very complicated block to construct. I keep all my leftover fabric for this project together as well - I can imagine I will make an "opps" at some point as well.

I can't see any seams or "fixes" in the block at all!! Wonderful job.

Awesome job with the band aid. I too save my scraps in a bag but if I run out of a fabric I don't mind using a look alike instead, it's the "quirkiness" that I love in quilts.

Well, I can't find the 'fix'! Those fabrics are so pretty. I have to make-do every once in a while too!

You have no idea how many times I've goofed on a project! Your block is lovely. I don't ever throw away any scraps on a quilt I'm creating for that very reason. I don't have the brains to fix boo-boos like you do, though! Good for you!

I can't see the "fix" at all. I save all my scraps too. I always mess up at least one block per quilt lol!!

What repair??? Looks great to me! I'm doing this BOM as well and decided for the same reason to save my scraps from it - I figure if I don't need them, maybe someone else will and I would be happy to send them along! Great work! BTW - I have only 3 of the 6 finished so far - how embarrasing! Cheers!

I definately do things like that. The funny thing about getting nearly 50 cottages was how differently people sew and how different 1/4" is to everyone! I did some fixing and it all worked out. It is amazing that you can't really screw up fabric TOO much - most of the time anything can be fixed with a seam ripper and a little patience.

I've been saving all the scraps from the previous months just for this reason. If I don't need them, I think they'll make a cute little doll quilt or something.

I just got this block yesterday - can't wait to start it! These are all so pretty. I'm much better at keeping up with piecing BOMs than applique ones.

I do that too. And look at how much you have saved by not buying more of that fabric for 'just in case'! Good fix.

My very first quilt was a bear paw pattern. I was pleased with it until it was finished and I laid it out. I noticed some of the paws were backwards. My husband renamed it the bear flaw quilt.
