While I'm Gone!
(it's all about YOU)

My reservations have been made and I'm packing my bags because I'm going to Texas to assist my mom with a health matter. I'm not sure how long I'll be gone however I don't anticipate longer than 10 days to two weeks.

When I return it'll be time to celebrate my 3rd blogging anniversary - yes, I've been blogging for three years! Hard to believe!!!! So, to celebrate I plan to have a giveaway.

Recently Laurie of Minick & Simpson shared on their blog her "lunchbox tin sewing kit". After obtaining permission from Laurie to basically copy her idea I started planning the giveaway to celebrate my 'blogiversary'. Thank you, Laurie!

I'd like your input.

What would you like to find inside a "Lunchbox Sewing Kit" like this one?

I will have internet access while I'm at my mom's so I'll be enjoying your ideas and suggestions.

Until next time, I remain..............

In Friendship!

oohh, charm pack, cute buttons, maybe a small pattern of something.

Where in Texas are you headed? I'm a native Texan and still live in North Dallas.

I can always use buttons. I have very little rickrack in my stash. I love charm packs and thread. Can you believe, I do not even have a needle holder. A cute pin cushion is always nice too. I have also seen some cute scissor holders on some blogs. Goodness, I'd better stop. LOL I hope things go well with your mom and you can enjoy a nice visit with her. Winona

A pattern, charm pack, pin cushion and chocolate. That would make my day and would set me up perfectly.

Well, a charm pack, of course. A cute pincushion, rick rack,... did someone already mention chocolate? How about a tape measure? And maybe some glass head pins. Oh, and a small notebook for keeping notations of family sizes, birthdays, things to remember, tips.

Good luck with your mom. Travel safely!

Let's see, maybe some small pieces of wool, a pincushion pattern, a few beads and some sparkly embroidery thread.

I think the most fun thing for the cute box would be surprises! I love to get packages that I have no idea what they contain! So fat quarters or anything used in quilting or related crafts would be fun and very welcome at my house.

Have a great trip, I am a Texan at heart, I just live in AZ. LOL Hope all goes well with your Mom, know that is a hard thing to do.

I would love to see whatever you darned well want to give away in that cute little sewing box. All the answers everybody has given are wonderful but really....if it held something made from your hands I would treasure it and the friendship even more. Take care and enjoy moments spent with mom. Oh...Happy Mother's Day to you too!

Oh Darlene, I hope all goes well with your mom. Have a great Mother's Day. That little lunch box is soooo cute all by itself. You have so many great
ideas already. Maybe a bobbin holder, some cotton jumbo ric rack a small handmade (by you) item and a plane ticket to a warm and quiet place. (one way please)!!! Enjoy your visit.

Rosaline said...

I hope all goes well with your Mom; she's fortunate to have you.
Re the lunchbox, I'd like to see varigated threads, silk threads for hand applique, and one of those thingies that you hang around your neck with your spool of thread on it - easy for cutting of lenghts as you hand stitch.

Chocolate Cat said...

Definately threads and a stitching project!!
Hope your trip goes well, enjoy spending the time with your Mum.

Linda said...

You know my prayers are with you, noe for the little lunch box/tin. How about a ticket to OZ.... just kidding. Ric rac, buttons, needles, thread, these are just ideas. I suppose the normal things you'd find in a sewing kit.

Lissa Jane said...

Darlene I hope your mum is OK.. I wish you a safe trip.. ((HUGS))

a box like that, I'd use it for my 'take along' project I keep in the car, so thread, needles, needlebook, maybe a pincushion (for the pins I dont use) and prepped blocks is what I'd have in it! I usually also have a 'secret stash' of lollies in my take along project.. the kids dont think to ever look in there!

Carol said...

Sending you good thoughts for safe travel and a good visit with your mom...hope everything goes well. That is the cutest box!

Mary said...

What an adorable box. How about some "pins and needles" and rotary cutter blades? Rick rack is fun as well. Most importantly, I hope your Mom is OK and you have a safe trip.

You'll find just the right things to fill your box, I've got not one doubt. Hope all goes well on your trip.

Oh, I love lunch boxes. What a great idea!! I have a lime green one that I used to use for embroidery items. It's shaped like the old black construction man ones... you know, with the top hump...

I would love to open one and find 30's fabrics (to go with that wonderful outside design), a pincushion, needles or anything....

Darlene, thank you so much for letting me know that was Angie's table and for stopping by. I originally found the picture on a site with a ton of sewing rooms on it and I discarded the link when she took those pictures down. I've edited my post and given her credit for the table. Do you happen to have a link for her if she has a blog or web site? I'd love to visit her. Thanks again. Cindy

I sure hope your mum gets better quickly and enjoys your visit with her!!

I think a cute little box like that needs to have a little bit of "Darlene" in it - one of your signature pin cushions and all the lovely little items that you think are special.

Have a good trip.

First Darlene, let me say I hope all goes well with your mom and you both have a great visit together and your Mother's Day is blessed.
Second, Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary. That is a lot of post.
Third, that little lunch box is so cute. I think some small leftover blocks would be fun along with buttons, and rick rack all wrapped up in a vintage towel.
Lots of hugs.

First, only good thoughts for your Mom and her quick recovery. Now...rick-rack, buttons, 12" of lace, charm pack, pad and pencil, thread, needles, yo-yo template, tape measure, small pair of scissors and last but not least a timer. That way I can set it for exactly how long I have that I can spend on my project. Okay, that would make my day, thanks for doing this.

Lynn said...

A friend has recently given me a small bag filled with scraps of her quilts. Her instructions were to use them all in one quilt - boy has that been fun - something like that would be great. That little tin is so cute - not sure it needs too much else.

Sandy said...

Enjoy your stay with your Mom and pray she is doing well. The lunchbox is ADORABLE!!! Hmmm, what would I like pack in it...would have to include a thimble, needles, pincushion, small scissors and a charm pak or two. Oh, and can't forget something nourishing.

I hope your mother is doing well. She must really love that you're there with her while she is recovering!

Inside the box? Surprise me! A bit of this a bit of that. A cute button or 2, maybe some thread, a nifty notion, a bit of fabric, a cute pattern, some scraps...whatever. The exciting part is the surprise!

Nanette Merrill and daughters said...

I recently got the "donut" from superior threads to house applique thread in many colors in paper bobbins. I love it. Now I have all the colors but not big spools. Really a great idea. Hope all is well with your mom soon.

Teresa said...

Such a cute box. I like everyone's ideas...hmmm, did anyone say chocolate?

Threeundertwo said...

Personally, I would love a redwork or embroidery pattern, a jelly roll of coordinating fabric, some floss, a package of clover gold-eye needles, a needlebook or pincushion, and a CD of music to stitch by.

I dream big!

Best wishes for your mom.

Rose Marie said...

Prayers for your Mom, a pincushion, some hexies, needle and thread, scissors and above all .... a chocolate bar.

charm packs and buttons, or course, or maybe some antique dresser knobs that would freshen up the old sewing room

Treasure your moments with mom and thank you for being a wonderful daughter. I just lost my dad and you learn too late to build that treasure chest and wrap each memory in gold.

I'd vote for rick rak, pattern, pincusion. A charm pack would be nice. a new car? Too big? ok, forget the new car. :)

I actually HAVE that tin. I keep my hand-stitching in it! I use an old metal business card holder with a piece of felt in it for my needle, small scissors and leather thimble, all my floss, and current work. AND my bifocals if I'm going somewhere, lol.
