I love the blogging world - I call it my International Guild! Lots of new friends and inspiration. Blogging brought and brings new friends; blogging has helped me do and try new methods i.e. hand applique; blogging inspired me to get back to embroidery and stitchery and on and on and on.
I am constantly inspired by what everyone is doing and unfortunately I have a tendency to be a big copycat. Thanks for indulging me!
I haven't been doing much sewing in recent days - mostly flitting from project to pattern to fabric back to project to another pattern or book, more fabric, etc. LOL However, I have a good friend who just celebrated a BIG birthday - she's 65. We've never exchanged birthday gifts - just good wishes. Well, this year I decided that she needed a special gift. I've been working off and on, on a quilt that will have 65 friendship stars - took a little paper, pencil and calculator to come up with a simple design that would look good with 65 stars. Sadly, I don't have EQ6 but that's OK, I've got it all figured out and now I just need to keep making stars. Yes, I will be very late but she'll appreciate it and be surprised anytime I give it to her. I'll give her a little sneak peek soon. *snicker*. BTW, she's a Thimbleberries fanatic so I found some T'berries yardage to use for the background of the entire quilt and I used to do Thimbleberries so I have some scraps and fat quarters that will work great.
I've got to get busy working on some 3" finished 9 patches that a friend and I are going to exchange every month. I'm excited about this because I've been wanting to do a one-on-one exchange with someone. These little cuties will be great in a quilt. No real plan for now we're just going to exchange blocks and work on a layout as we go along - we're not even sure how long we're going to do this. LOL This is definitely flying by the seat of our pants. LOL
Thanks for popping by - please stop by often!
In Friendship!

Don't worry about the copycat thing, I think it's common among quilters, I'm surely the the same way. We are such visual people. I need pictures when I'm making a quilt.
Your friend will be very surprised and delighted to receive a quilt. The friendship stars are the prefect block for such a gift. Can't wait to see how you put it all together.
I love reading your blog!
Being a copycat is a wondrful form of flattery to the person you copy...they may have copied it from someone else..i.e a pattern or magazine. I LOVE your blog!!
I agree with Bren - imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery, don't forget!
I love what you're doing for your 65-year young friend! She will love it, I know. I can't wait to see more!
Your blog is a reflection of the kind of person you are, which is wonderful!!
Enjoy your day, Darlene!
What a great block pattern to use for your friend, I'm sure she'll be extremely happy with it. Look forward to seeing it come together. Yup I agree if you copy someone else's idea or design, if it were me I'd be flattered to think that someone thought it nice or good enough to copy. So keep on copying....
Absolutely, THE biggest form of flattery, my friend!! :D Hey Dazy, you are such a sweetie, girl!! Your friend is going to LOVE that gift for sure!! If I lie and tell you I'll be 65 week after next, will you make me one???? ROFL BTW, I ordered the book, My Red Sofa. :>
Ah, Darlene, you are such a sweetie with your friends ! I'm sure she will be so much delighted !
By the way, I am the best copycat in the world, and if someone would copy me some day, I'd be thrilled and take it as a compliment.
XOXOXOXOXO
NADINE
I get most of my ideas from other quilters! You are a big source of inspiration to me Darlene! So many of your projects are right up my alley. The friendship star quilt will be a wonderful tribute to your friend's birthday.
What a wonderful idea...your friend is so gonna love it! I agree about copying....we do it because we love what others have made....how bad can that be....lol. I love your stars and your little 9 patches.
What a lovely and sweet surprise . . . she's gonna love it *s*
Do you mind if I copy your stars quilt?! LOL! You know, Darlene, quilting--and the block patterns we use--have been around so long that there are very few things that are truly original. Of course we copy each other! In fact, isn't that the original connection between you and me? Diane B. copied your Seeds of Time and I copied her's?! LOL!
That's a lot of stars!!
You put it well, an international guild with lots of inspiration!
I can't keep up with you! Whether it's quilting or blog land. You have the speed girl friend. Life has been so busy for me that I barely have enough time or energy to write a wee bit on my blog and it's off topic! I'm going nuts!!! I need to turn on my sewing machine!!! But I'm beat from babysitting. I need some wine!!! Or would that be some whine? keep well my friend!
ps: Yea, what you said about blog land. I love it! Can I have my quiet life back please?
I am right there with you feeding off the ideas of others. Isn't it great? Of course you are one on my major inspirations...........
Thanks for all you share with us.
