BIG SIGH, BIG CRY OR BIG LAUGH----------

Something's gotta give!

I spent the afternoon going through some boxes and Rubbermaid bins of fabric that were still packed from our move two years ago. I've decided that I need to get reacquainted with some of this stuff and start making some decisions - some of this stuff has got to go. I asked myself several times today "what were you thinking when you bought this"? LOL I still have quite a few boxes to unpack - AAACCCKKK!!!!

After I spent time playing with fabric I decided it was time to take a look at my flimsies - I wasn't sure if I should Sigh, Cry or Laugh. I got reacquainted with each and everyone - I'd forgotten how cute some of them are and how much I love them. Sigh!!!!! I have a new count - are you ready?

without backings - 57
with backings - 44

I need to consider changing my focus - quilt the flimsies, work on embroidery/stitchery, hand applique and less actual piecing. HMMMM - must think about this. ;-)

So, after spending some time with fabric I haven't seen in awhile and the piles of flimsies I have confirmed in my own mind that I'm very sick - this is a true addiction and obsession. I really do love to sew and quilt!

I'm going to go sleep on this. Nice to 'see' you!

In Friendship!!!

You might be "sick" *lol*, but what a wonderful illness to have!!! So what if you need to take some time to finish "a few" flimsies? You have been creating things of beauty, that bring you pleasure and joy!

Enjoy your decease *lol* I think there are more out there with this illness than you (and me *lol*)

WOW you've been prolific! I hope you'll share some pictures of all those flimsies..blog material for a few months I'm sure!

I agree -- we want pictures!

Yes! Pictures are a brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing this bit of news. I've been feeling guilty about a dozen or so flimsies and this makes me feel better. :)

Here is what I've decided about UFOs, though - sometimes when I force myself to work on them, it's just not fun. And, if it's not fun, then it's not a good hobby. So...you go girl! I salute your bravery!

There are seasons to quilting and you just need to figure out what season you are in - maybe you are heading into a quilting those flimsy season? Whatever it is - I hope you enjoy it.

What an amazing count! The wonderful thing is, your quilts will wait for you to come and finish them whenever you're ready.
I think your "illness" is one many of us share - if I have to be "sick", I'll take my quilting addiction every time!!

I agree...Pictures, pictures!! We wanna see them.

At least we know you have things to keep you busy and off the streets of Surface of the Sun AZ!! And as for fabric addiction....I must admit I think I have a touch of it too. I couldn't sew up all the fabric I have if I live to be 100+.

That is alot of flimsey's!! I agree with the request for pictures!!!

Well, your addiction is the sweetest one in the world, not to mention the pleasure you had, still have, will have... and are going to give us with many, many pics ! I do hope my addiction goes as far as yours, and I just wish I were by your side, unpacking these "sleeping beauties" with you !... Don't worry, my friend, we're QUILTERS, not necessarily finishers !
Enjoy revisiting your works !

A biiiig ((HUG)) and smiles to you !

I think you should "laugh", isn't it fantastic you love your hobby so much that you can't even keep up with the quilting of tops. I always say "do whatever makes you happy", that's what enjoying a hobby is all about.
I'd love to drool over some of them!

Yes we need photo's so we can drool. Hmm illness, I don't think so Darlene, passion is what you and most of us have, a passion to create, continue enjoying that passion and don't let your count stop you from increasing that number.

I didn't realize how easy it was to accumulate flimsies until this past year. Now I totally understand. Hopefully you can get a few of your favorites done and they can keep you warm this winter!!

You are just overly productive. That is a good thing.

OMG!!! That is just hilarious...and I'm GREEN with envy!!! I wish I had that many tops that I had pieced...I would be proudly displaying them for anyone and everyone to see!!! :D And if they ever get quilted, great!! If not, they are STILL GREAT!!!:D

Seems to be that you are just a prolific piecer. I can't see anything wrong with that :)

I found you through this incredible quilt-blogging "network". Great post, I'm currently going through some quilt-top re-acquaintance of my own. Groan. And scrap saving... it's never ending.

Okay, so you've described my situation! Whatch you want to do about it? Do we start a QAA? We can all sit around with a hand project and talk about our other projects and how much we enjoy fondling fabric! lol Ya know, I consider my quilting problem part of that prayer that those AAA groups use. You know ".... grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change" - there you have! That's it, so you're just gonna have to live with it! ;o) Keep well my friend!

It is amazing how one can make something lovely and really love it - put it in a pile and then completely forget it ever existed - LOL. And then buying more fabric to make more flimsies... and then putting them in a pile.. and then.... I think it is disease of epidemic proportions in the quilting world.

But it is such fun to rediscover them :))

Good luck with the decisions!

Oh my, and I thought have 16 waiting to be quilting was a lot. I would also enjoy seeing your quilts.

Your not the only sicko out there my friend. I'm right behind you. I have a stack to go to a quilter. It's gonna cost me a small fortune to get them all quilted. I can't stop making them cause I love doing it so much. I do the stitchery too but have to keep on piecing. WE MUST.

Kim said...

Yes, I agree we do need some photos. And although I didn't quite read through each and every comment that came before mine, I didn't notice any offers of REAL help like this: If it would make you feel any better, please feel free to send me any of your really nice flimsies. I'll take them off your hands, free of charge. Aren't I just the BEST friend?! LOL!

Vicky said...

Join the sicko club, Darlene, although I think you reign supreme as the Queen! LOL

A couple of years ago, I brought close to 300 yards of fabric down to the nuns at the retreat center I attended. The good Sisters were lighted to get it for their charity quilts, and it felt great!

Meredith said...

Well you are productive. LOL. Pictures would be fun. I wonder how long it would take to finish all of them? Are some of them small or are they all bed size?

Quilts And Pieces said...

Oh, your not sick. You just have a nice stress relief!

Quilting Kim said...

Ohhhh, pictures of the flimsies, please. We'll all help you decide which one to work on first!!!

You may have an addiction, but it is neither fattening, illegal nor immoral -- so just enjoy it.

Hmmmm....maybe I shouldn't have asked....

WOW - sounds like you need to get cracking on the quilting :)

I too am afflicted with the same illness. I am working on cutting up my smallest scraps into squares to be used in scrap quilts and tidying up the rest of my scraps. I wasn't sure what you meant by flimsies until you put up your count. I have been blogging about my UFO's which has caused me to get working on them again so I have been able to move some things closer to finished and some items are actually finished!

Quilter Kathy said...

That's quite an accomplishment!
Never fear Darlene - you mostly enjoy the block/top piecing, so just ENJOY! The UFO's can either wait for you, or go "out" for quilting, or maybe you will end up donating them to a worthy cause. Don't let them stress you out! Pile them up, admire them, and be proud of all that work/play!

You must really enjoy piecing. It can be fun to go thought and see what you have, and fall in love with it all over again.

Hooray! Someone with more flimsies than I have!!!!
