Why Do I Blog????

A few weeks ago I was telling some of my local friends about the world of blogging and how much fun it is - yada, yada, yada. Well, I had to contend with eyes being rolled, reasons why the Internet is such a dangerous place, snide remarks about how desperate I must be for friends. I told them they were wrong and that I was having a great time. The subject was finally dropped and believe me when I tell you that I will never bring it up again. LOL

Anyway, since then I've really been asking myself "why do I blog"? I know exactly why I blog however it was a question I still had to ask myself. :-) I have made so many wonderful friends since I started this blog and I've said it before and will repeat it again - this is my international guild where I feel welcome all the time. There is so much inspiration in the blogging world.

Today my question was answered loud and clear by several "Earthly Angels". Late one night Linda and I were chatting via e-mail about the magazine that she'd been 'lusting after' for a few years and I told her that I understood exactly how she felt as I had a little tidbit I'd been wanting from AU very badly but had not been able to locate it. She immediately called Kim at Honeysuckle Cottage in AU and these two wonderful women put the wheels in motion to locate what I was coveting. I received an e-mail from Linda this morning telling me that my elusive tidbit will be arriving at my home very, very soon. I couldn't believe it when I read this e-mail and I'm not ashamed to admit that I had tears in my eyes.

This is why I blog!

I hope that you've had a wonderful day and that you've enjoyed your needle and thread. Thanks for stopping by blog and I hope you'll come again because I intend to continue to blog for a very long time.

In Friendship!

It's funny on vacation I had a similar conversation with someone. Blogging reminds me of my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Rilley, who insisted we all have pen pals.
I had two one from England and one
from Italy. I LOVED getting those letters in the mail and became fast
friends with each. We wrote for years until those "teenage years" came. Blogging for me is like having tons of pen pals all over! We are very lucky.

Awww Darlene, I didn't intend to make you cry, just fill your lustful wish...... I am a great believer in treating others with love and kindness and reaching out and doing for them when and where possible. I'm so glad that between Kim and I we were able to fulfill this little wish.

Why do I blog? Same reason you do. It is a very nice group of women from all walks of life who have one common thread...a love of thread!!!

You know I've had that same conversation and people just don't know what they are missing. I for one am very glad that you will be blogging for a very long time. Me too!

I guess it doesn't get much better than that! Looking forward to reading all your future posts. :)

It's the genuine thoughtfulness that comes through that got me started and keeps me coming back for more *s*

I am very glad you blog, as I look forward to reading you blog. I think the local ladies just don't understand what a wonderful, friendly community we all share online.

The highlight of my day is checking with my friends to see what they've been up to, what they've been sewing, whether their heart is lighter today ..... and I can do it in my PJs! There are lots of bloggers out there, but it's the QUILTY bloggers who are so special! Quilters are, after all, the very best!!

I know what you are talking about...seems like the exact conversation I had with my friends. I almost stopped blogging after that. So glad I didn't! We are having a good time, aren't we?

I started blogging because it is a way to talk about anything and everything quilty and not feel like I'm off topic.

I've met many wonderful quilters. I've learned tons about other parts of the world. I've also learned and tried many new quilting techniques that I would not have tried on my own.

Thanks for blogging Darlene. I enjoy reading blog and I'm glad you'll be around for a long time.

I've had that conversation several times...when you mention blogging and feel the person you're telling slowly backing away.
I agree with Cheryl. It's like having penpals all over the world. It has been a 100% positive experience for me and I've made many, many friends through it.

I get the same reaction from friends, when I talk about blogging. They are missing so much.

I'm so very happy to have started blogging and even more happy that I have met you. Quilt bloggers are kind, caring and we all have a common thread to keep us together.

I too will keep blogging for a long time.

Being new to the blogging world, I've been spreading my news to my 3d friends. They all ask... Whats a Blog or A WHAT? LOL. I tell them its a diary, journal? It's not like its only quilters that blog? they still don't get it. I love sharing and reading about what others are doing too, so keep on bloggin, hope you will blog about that little lusted after item when it arrives.

Isn't the blogging community just wonderful? I guess not everyone can understand how such wonderful friendships can be made this way.

Awesome, Dazy girl!!! :D I'm so glad you're getting that magazine you wanted so very badly! :) These quilting friendships that we're making online are just the best! I can't wait to see what treasure this is that's winging it's way to your doorstep! BTW, I will send you an email tomorrow with a picture as an update on my 'project'. :D Hugs, girlfriend!

That is so wonderful my friend. Yea, friends on blog land are truly angels. I'm so glad that Linda was able to help you. Hum... so what's you get? I'm lusting after Bronwyn Haye's book Tea with Friends and I don't want to ask my friend Cheryl in Oz. She has been so generous, refusing to tell me how much I ow her for Leanne's Quilter's Journey BOM. Perhaps I'll check out that site. Not that I need another embroidery book! lol I'm hooked and it's just a matter of time before I have a project going! Have a great weekend!

Like so many things in life, the internet could be a place of danger or a place for friendships. I am glad you have formed friendships.

Yes, I've had a lovely day with needle and thread except for a couple incidents when the needle decided to jab me. Or when I sewed through a little bit of finger once or twice. Oh, and there was the one time when I picked up my reading glasses, put them on, and couldn't figure out what was hanging off them until I pulled off my needle and thread. Dang thing's ALIVE! I'm glad you blog though--who else would I have to argue with?! LOL!

The care and support you get from others, the inspiration they bring to your work are just some of the reasons to blog.

I am glad you do blog or I wouldn't have nearly the wonderful ideas I have collected from you.

I had the same problem when I talked about chatting online in a quilt chat room ...and now those same people are in a quilt group with ladies I met ::::GASP:::: in that chat room! Bloggers are the best!

I was just trying to explain what a blog is to my husband yesterday (he never heard of blogging!!), but he didn't get it at all.
I, on the other hand, have a hard time keeping up with all the blogs I like to read (one leads to another, I could be surfing blog-land all day and not mind a bit!).
I wonder what percentage of bloggers are men, I would think there are many more women, but then I'm mostly reading quilt-related blogs......

I blog because I can, and because there are fellow bloggers exactly like YOU... those who inspire, support and encourage us to be all that we can be in that International Guild where all are welcome!

I'm blogging because of the inspiration and true friendship I find in it. To me,it's like a number of threads sewn together between other quilters friends and myself... therefore my Blog name "Friendship Threads"

I know exactly how you feel -- explaining it is very difficult but the blogging itself is fantastic!

I get a lot of rolled eyes about my blogging too. Now, when people condescendingly ask me why I blog, I say something along the lines of "because I enjoy blogging; go soak your head." That seems to work pretty well too! : )
