Let the Games Begin!

Recently I was told that I don't seem to finish anything and that if I didn't stop sewing my pile of flimies (aka quilt tops) would be incredibly large! What????? In my mind I seem to finish quite a bit and yes maybe my pile of flimsies is just slightly too large but they are all stored in my home so ....

Anyway, those two comments have been subconsciously bothering me so I've decided to set some goals for August!

This is the only quilt top that is not officially a flimsy. It was started a long time ago and it just needs borders - so I will add the final borders and quilt it. BTW, this Blossom by Fig Tree Designs.

This has been my baseball watching project - Santa, the D'backs & Me. I finished the final Santa earlier this week and in August I will assemble the quilt top and quilt it. It will be adorable in my home at Christmas.
Sadly, I have gotten behind with my Bunny Hill Designs Tisket-a-Tasket BOM so I will get May, June, July & August blocks done. Take note that I am current with the redwork version :-)

My Polka Dot Girls project has been waiting to be assembled. All blocks have been stitched for a long time; this month I will assemble the quilt top and quilt it.

Yes, the pile of flimsies is very large so I plan to pick out at least five flimsies to quilt during the month of August. I'll be back sometime tomorrow (Saturday) to show you which ones I've selected. And, I will also show you two flimsies I quilted this week - they are officially quilts.

I received some wonderful birthday packages from some bloggy friends so stay tuned for pictures of my new treasures and treats.

Enjoy your week end - thank you for stopping by to visit!

In Friendship!

Hmm...I think you finish a lot of things. alot more then I do lol! your work is beautiful and all that matters is you're doing something you love! It is good to set goals though, so i'm cheering for you. (and also feeling very lazy lol!) Oh and I love your santas!!

You do the most beautiful work. That redwork is outstanding and I'm still in shock over the 1930s B&W. That's a good idea to set a few August goals, I should do the same.

Love all your stitcheries and appliques! I stopped worrying about my stack of flimsies. They take up less room than completed quilts. Plus, if I have to make a gift and want to give a quilt I generally have a flimsy that can be finished in no time.

It sounds to me like someone else is upset with your love of quilting. Please don't let those comments decide what brings you the most joy in life.

I'm gathering you are likely being razzed by incompletion of what you start? I beg to differ there little Ms Speedy! I can always rely on checking your blog and finding something new and wonderful! For example today's post! OMG...the redwork Santas are adorable! Are you stitching on muslin and is it lined with pellon or something similiar? A simple tutorial would be grand...your stitchery looks nice and flat (unlike some I've done) Are you using a hoop? See, told you I could use your tutorial!

You are not alone.

now I knoiw why you're called speedy. All of the work you've shown is wonderful. You do far more than anyone I know.

Setting a goal is a good thing. It seems like the only way I get anything finished is to have a deadline. As far as too many flimsies...nah, you can never have too many.

No negative critiques from me on your pile of flimsies...I think you are incredible. Have an awesome weekend!

I love your work. A little jealouse of the resources that you seem to have for stitchery.

I guess I am a member of the ufo club too :-) I love to get those tops made, but hummmm. I don't do the hand embroidery, so I don't really have any excuse. Love your redwork :-)

Well I agree I think you get a tremendous amount of quilting and stitching done. We all have a few projects tucked away that take a long time to finish up because we get excited about something new. I think I should do that, set a goal, show it and get-r-dun :). You go girl

Hugs - karen

The flimsies are stacking up in this house too! I am setting aside the second half of august to do some machine quilting - then I will have a pile needing binding! LOL

I think you get a lot of projects done. Nice quilt, looks like Simplicity fabric. Love the redwork designs too.

You get more things done than anyone, your blog is such inspiration to me. It might seem like you have a lot of flimsy's but that would be because you are so much faster at getting your tops completed. I have lots of unfinished projects believe me.
The Santa's are sure adorable and I'm way behind in my Bunnyhill redwork as well.

The most important thing to remember is that you are quilting for your enjoyment, not someone else's.
I have tons of flimsies waiting for quilting and tons of projects in the works and even more ideas in my head. I am the one who needs to work on getting things finished!

Love all of your redwork Darlene! You have to be in the mood to finish them, right? Big goals for August.

I'm with "Not Lucy"...you do what you do for your enjoyment. Do what makes you happy. Not every quilt must be quilted right away. I think it's great to have some flimsies ready in case you need one for someone special...then you can quilt it the way you want for that person.
Love your Santa's...OMG they are wonderful! And your Polka Dot girls are just awesome!

Oh such pretties - all around. And my thought is - if we don't leave flimsies - what will our family and friends have to do when we are gone? They won't have anything left of ours to finish up for us. LOL

Pooh on anyone telling you how to do your hobby.
I've got more flimsys than I can shake a stick at. And that is fine by me because the part I love is the piecing, the rest is hard work for me, and I can't afford a long arm quilter.
Besides you finish quite a few quilts. Better than most bloggers I read anyway.

Do whatever makes YOU happy, Darlene...after all it's your life, your time, your money and your energy...and don't pat attention to what others think and say.

Your stitching is amazing and anyone who does handwork must know the amount of time and effort that goes into any project...large or small.

It's nice to set personal goals. I seem to be more productive when I set goals for myself. I don;t think that the goals that you set for yourself this month are unreasonable. If you meet them, super. If you don't, so what. Just add them to next month's. (wink)

Big hugs to you my friend.

Some people have said the same thing to me...cheeky!
I tell them that even if I never finish another thing, I am happy so that is all that matters! And I may not finish all my projects but I sure accomplish a lot.
Look at all the redwork you have accomplished...wow!
I'm keeping my eyes open for your Journey quilt to bubble to the top of the pile!!!

Someone said you don't seem to finish? They must be kidding. You accomplish more than most blogs I read!!!

I don't think you should take the comments to heart, though I do look forward to seeing the flimsies. You do such beautiful work. I love your redwork. The Santas and everything else are so incredible. At least you have flimsies, I have many projects that have not even been started.

Nan said...

Ooooooh, which one(s) do I get???? LOL! They are all beautiful, just the way they are! You get more accomplished than any quilter I know, so don't let anyone's words bother you. You are a Quilting Queen in my book!
Having said that, it's always good to set goals. I know you will achieve them. That's just the way you are.
H'moosies!!!

You have some cute things to pick from Missy. I love the embroideried santas. Very cute. I love your fig tree top waiting for it's border too. And who cares if you have a large pile of flimsy's. There YOURS and you can do what you want with them. :-)

OMG! I found your blog....now I'm so depressed! I feel like such an underachiever. You are so blessed... time and patience must be your friends because your completed works made my jaw drop. I think I need a new alarm clock, maybe if I get up a little earlier... yeah, that's it...I might have been hit by inspiration. Thanks! Do you sleep??? LOL! Congratulations on your completed works...anything that needs just a binding is complete in my book!
