Perfect Segue!

Have you seen the BEAUTIFUL bags that Wendy makes? You must pop over to her blog and check ‘em out. As I was reading her blog this morning, it occurred to me that the topic on her blog today would be a perfect segue to my “bag making phobia”. Yes, ladies (and gentlemen) I have a huge bag making phobia. When I think about making a bag the butterflies in my stomach start fluttering and then if I start reading directions, etc then I break out in a cold sweat. It’s not a pretty sight. LOL I didn’t enjoy sewing garments and I think that making a bag reminds me of sewing garments. BIG YUCK!!!!! You should see me shamelessly begging my bag making friends to please, please, please make a bag for me.

As I was attempting to pack light for my retreat I decided that I wanted to make a travel case for my P3 applique tools so I called one of my bag making friends and asked if she’d help me when I got stuck. “Absolutely”, she said. I needed three fat quarters (so I packed 10), batting and Velcro. I was good to go. WooHoo!

Drum roll please!!!!! Saturday evening after I finished my Night and Noon quilt top I made the travel case you see in the picture. I didn’t need much assistance and when I was finished my friends decided that I was now a bag making apprentice. LOL Wait, wait, I actually made two travel pouches but I failed to get a picture of the second one before I gave it to the owner of the retreat location. She was super excited, too. (it's the little things!)

Speaking of bags, totes, etc you must visit Sharon’s blog and take a look at her bags, as well. And, if you look through Doe's blog you'll see some super bags there, too.

It’s so nice to be surrounded by such talented women, isn’t it?

Welcome to the world of bag making. I hope that your first project, which by the way is just wonderful, has given you an appetite to dip your toes in the water a little more.

your travel case is cute. Is your cutting mat very small??? I just have big cutting mats. Perhaps I should take an old mat and cut it smaller to bring along. I am a bag lady and love to make a lot of bags.

I love it! Bag making scares me to death...don't know why, I can sew most anything but there's just something about them. Hmmmmm...wonder what that means :)

Your applique tool kit bag is great! I too, have a bag making phobia. I have only made one or two in my life, and that was decades ago. I have to say, I am tempted now that I have seen yours!

You go girl! That's a fantastic bag and I love the fabric. I glad you enjoyed seeing mine, I didn't like making bags at first. I would see so many beautiful bags and had to have one.

Congratulations! That is gorgeous fabric. I also have a phobia of sewing things other than quilts. I think it's because quilts are flat and everything else is 3-dimensional. I like sewing in just 2 dimensions, thank you!

Congratulations on stepping out of your comfort zone. Making bags can be very enjoyable once you know a few tricks. I am sure this case won´t be the last one for you! Take care.

I'm not a bag maker either - some many places offer up free totes, etc. I just glom on to them *s* It's flat things for me.

Very nice, and thanks for the pattern information, as I may make one for myself.

That looks so great!!! You did a really good job! I have been collecting books on how to make quilted bags and purses for some time now...haven't done one cause it is so intimidating. You may have given me the nudge I need. Thanks for sharing!!

Darlen,
Thanks for the nice comments about my bags. I love making them as you do. I get all excited thinking about the next one. I did two new ones this weekend so far.
Love the travel case you did. I've had that pattern but never attempted it. Maybe I'll have to now.
