Progress on the dark side!

Remember the pieces/parts I showed in my last post? I've finished all the blocks and now I'm assembling the quilt top. I have a long way to go yet as this quilt is 85" by 93". The pattern is "Second Hand Clothes" by Bonnie Blue Quilts.

Come to the dark side! :-)

My Fresh Squeezed flimsy is bright and cheery and now I've crossed to the dark side - LOL

This just proves that I'm very fickle and I like it ALL. :-)

New project cut and ready to assemble. This one requires 110 different Civil War repro type fabrics and one background print. You can see in the lower left hand corner of the picture that I've started making some of the blocks. They are quick and easy so hopefully I'll have something more substantial to show you soon.

My busyness is settling down so hopefully I'll be back in true blogging form very soon. Thank you for not giving up on me and for stopping by to visit and taking a minute or two of your time to leave a comment - I appreciate it very much!

Fresh Squeezed!!!!!

Here's my Fresh Squeezed jelly roll project all sewn together and waiting for the borders. As I was arranging all the blocks I was really second guessing my decision to use this pattern for this Jelly Roll but I'm loving it now! I can't get borders until next week but in the meantime I can think long and hard about which fabrics I want to use. Oh, I almost forgot....this pattern is called Keyholes and it's in "On A Roll Again" by Anka's Treasures.

I must stop sewing for tonight and go to bed. I'm already planning my next project so come again soon. :-)

Sewing & Tagging

I've been flitting from jelly rolls to layer cakes to fat quarter bundles attempting to decide on my next project! I don't have a project cut and ready to sew; an applique project prepped and ready to sew; or an embroidery project traced and ready to be stitched. Sigh! I said to my DH this morning that I hate when I'm in this phase of my sewing. As I stood by the door to his office I watched as he opened my blog and said "I hate it when you're in this phase of your sewing" LOL - guess this phase makes for a very boring blog. teehee! I then turned on my heel, walked into my semi-tidy sewing room and pulled out my Fresh Squeezed jelly roll - cutting and sewing has commenced! WooHoo!

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

Ten years ago I was deep into my career as a Director of Human Resources for a national credit counseling agency and loving every minute of it.

Off to stay with my 4 year old grandson, Eli while my DD goes to the "girl doctor" (Eli's words - LOL)

My father's family. He and my mom were divorced when I was very young so I know very little about that side of my family.

Confetti Cake

I'm in love with Moda's Layer Cake packs - 10" squares go a long way with very little left over. Almost feels like you've scraped the bowl clean. LOL This is my second Layer Cake project and I plan to work on another one very, very soon.

This pattern is called "Confetti Cake" by The Pattern Basket. Great instructions but I'd forgotten that this block and I do not get along. If you see me working on this block again on a future project please, please stop me! :-)

I'm hoping to spend more time in my sewing room again tomorrow. I hope you've been sewing, too.

Blog Friends!

Mother's Day ended on a very happy note - I had my first "blog friend meet". I had a wonderful evening & dinner with Nan of Quilting in DoxieLand. She's as delightful in person as she is on her blog and I can't believe how much alike we are - very scary. However, we definitely do not look alike - she's tall and slim and I'm short and fluffy. LOL You have no idea how nervous I was about meeting Nan - not because of Nan but because I actually prefer to remain a mystery (you'll never see pictures of me on my blog). We had a wonderful dinner, lots of giggles and laughs and then the evening was over. Sigh! Hopefully, someday we'll get to spend alot more time together.

A couple of weeks ago I received a sweet package from Cheryl at Polka Dots and Rickrack. She made this Ditty Bag especially for me - woohoo! Isn't it adorable? The pattern is by Monica of Happy Zombie. Cheryl, thank you so much!!!!

I have finally managed to do a little sewing for me. Working on my Prairie Paisley blocks but I won't bore you with more pictures of that project. I'll wait till the entire quilt top is done.

More, Please!

Last night I went to sew with my local quilt group and rather than spending the evening power piecing I decided to sit and make more yo-yos. I haven't seen my friends since our quilt retreat in late February so this was the perfect project to work on - easier to chit chat. My yo-yo jar needed some brighter colors and these will mix in nicely. :-)

My sewing room has been a HUGE disaster area and before someone showed up at my front door to condemn it I decided I'd better clean it. Yesterday I spent most of the day attempting to restore order. There's still quite a bit to do but it's looking much better. I'm anxious to get it done so I can spend some time sewing for me.

Moving On................

Thank you so much for all your insightful, kind, heartfelt and sweet comments in my last post. My friend has been laid to rest and I know she's "piecefully" sewing in Heaven.

This section of the Primitive Four Seasons stitchery project arrived Friday afternoon. I immediately traced it and stitched it while watching the baseball game. Assembled the block on Saturday morning and now I'm ready for the June block. :-) It feels good to be keeping up. WooHoo!

Sunday morning I assembled another Prairie Paisley block. I'm really excited about this project but can't seem to find a few minutes to just sew. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! :-)

She Will Be Remembered!

I received a very sad phone call last night - one of my quilting friends passed away suddenly earlier this week. I'll spare you the details because they are not significant however since the phone call and subsequent phone calls I placed to tell other friends of her passing I've had many, many thoughts run through my mind. The last time we were together we were sitting around a table at a quilting retreat in late February laughing, laughing, laughing, and laughing. I don't remember what we were laughing about but I do remember we were very happy and relaxed. A great memory to have of my friend.

I hope that you'll indulge me this post. I'll start with the old cliche "life is too short" - how often do we forget that life is definitely too short and we never know what will happen in the next minute or two. As I've gotten older (but not necessarily wiser) I have tried to live a much simpler way of life - trying to treat others as I want to be treated; trying to find joy every day; trying to be kinder and gentler to my loved ones; trying to avoid those that just want to inflict pain, physically and mentally and so on. I had two situations this week that make my friend's passing even more significant - I was told that I was too happy and therefore annoying and I was called a b---h (this because something wasn't available that someone wanted). I don't understand how being happy can be annoying but I guess that's not my problem, is it? And, why is it my fault that something isn't available - I didn't deserve to be called an ugly name. These are things that happened in my everyday life. And, in my blogging world I've also experienced meanness - I've received e-mails regarding the fact that I seem to be void of originality and seem to copy what everyone else is doing; there's no excuse for my having a ton of quilt tops (aka flimsies) that aren't quilted; there's no excuse for the fact that I have lots and lots of quilts all over my home. Why do these things matter to anyone? How are these things affecting someone else's world? Sharing and finding joy is what life should be about.

This all brings me full circle to "life is too short" and "live and let live" - it's so important to be kind to those around you and live your life in a peaceful manner.

There's a new star in the sky and "she" will be remembered.

Endings and Beginnings!

Amanda, Bertha, Dora and Charlotte have left the building. WooHoo!!!!
This morning I delivered the final thirteen charm quilts to the girls from Me & My Sister Designs and as I drove away I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief. I'm so glad to have that project behind me. Whew!!!!!
Edit: the total number of charm quilts made..................52!

Tuesday evening I finished the last three blocks of my Polka Dot Girls stitchery project. Now I need to figure out what fabric(s) I'm going to use to assemble the blocks. You must visit Wendy's blog to see this project in a variety of colors rather than just one color. It's going to be stunning!



I fell in love with the Prairie Paisley line of fabric from Moda and purchased a lone charm pack a few weeks ago. I've been looking at this charm pack trying to decide what project to make with this line of fabric. There are many projects being shown around blogland but I've been searching for something a bit different.

I'm super excited because I found a wonderful pattern that's going to work wonderfully with these prints. I managed to get one block done this evening but I'll be working on this project diligently over the next few days. I love this first block!!!!

During the past few weeks while I've been sewing a plethora of charm quilts I've been dreaming of future projects. Fun mail has been arriving with lots and lots of goodies and treasures. You'll notice Water's Edge, Dandelion Girl, Maypole, Fresh Squeezed and Friends and Flowers - yes I'm a major Moda groupie! LOL

I'm anxious to spend time at my sewing machine working on projects for me. :-)
