Whew!
The past couple of weeks have been super busy in my little corner of the world. Some days have gone by in a complete blur - Sigh! My 'work life' is a bit different - I am self employed and I work a parttime job, too. (and on occasion there's been a third job, too). I've been working diligently to get all my work done and out the door so I could take some much needed time off - I really do need some Darlene-Time! Call it a vacation, a staycation, a break, Darlene-Time, etc - it doesn't matter - this is a much needed break.

Wow, thank you so much for all your wonderful comments on my previous post - it's been so much fun to read everyone's thoughts, ideas, solutions, etc. I promised a give away and if you left a comment I'd toss your name in a hat/basket/jar - I'll be back tomorrow with a list of winners! Yes, more than one but I need to see how many prizes I have. LOL

I'm in the midst of making four comfort/hug quilts for four friends who suffered losses of family members this year. I decided that since this was going to be their first Christmas without their loved one and the hugs of their loved one then a quilt with hugs sewn in would be a nice thing to do! I finished one on Saturday for a couple who lost their son this year. We delivered the quilt and explained why I made the quilt for them and they were a little shocked but very excited by our gesture.

It's a pattern called Patchwork Tiles for Moda University and I used fat quarters from Aunt Purdy's Parlor by Kansas Troubles. I was trying to achieve a masculine look but keep it a touch feminine, as well.

Pieces Parts for the second and third quilts. Bear in mind that I want to have all four completed by Christmas Day
I'll be back sometime tomorrow with contest winners! Thank you so much for visiting - do come again a real soon.

In Friendship,
Darlene

Oh, I'm sooo happy to get news from you, dear ! ;>)
Not later than yesterday, I was counting the days since your last post and felt a little worried. Then I thought you were certainly VERY busy. Indeed you were : such wonderful quilts in preparation, and with such a generous, moving motivation! That's our Darlene : always generous, and willing to please and comfort everyone ;>)

I wish you'll soon get some nice, well deserved "Darlene-cation days".

(((HUGS))) & smiles from me to you,

You are going to have to put the pedal to the metal to get those quilts done by Christmas day. What a thoughtful thing for you to do. I wish you much sewing time in the next few days.
I didn't know that you still worked. Such a busy person.

Great quilt Darlene! I find it difficult to buy fabric for masculine looking quilts.
How generous of you to give comfort quilts to those who are mourning....very thoughtful of you, and I'm sure these quilts will be appreciated.

Great quilts and an even greater idea for them. Glad to see that you will get some much needed time off. You will need it to get those quilts done!!!

I don't buy jellies or packs...and I have noticed that a lot of the patterns made with them are looking the same too - nobody wants to cut into them, so they turn out to be a lot of 'big block' quilts with 2½ strips or squares connecting them.

I tend to buy mostly tone on tone prints and batiks - then when selecting fabric for a quilt, I look for lights, mediums, and darks. but I generally have a pattern I've done in EQ - so I'm selecting fabric for the blocks, which makes it easier, I think. You got some interesting replies though!

Your quilt is beautiful. You are going to be working way into the night on those other quilts. Don't forget to relax a little.

Oh my goodness - four quilts by Christmas! I don't know how you'll do it - but if anyone can I think it's you. I sure love the Kansas Troubles quilt - I'll have to try that pattern. Looks quick and easy. It's very effective in those fabrics - can't wait to see how it looks in other fabrics!

Oh lovely fabrics and wonderful work Darlene as always. You always delight me. I'm in the same boat as you - too much to do and not enough time. And now it's the 23rd!

Oh my, that quilt turned out beautifully, Darlene! You have touched your friends hearts by your loving gesture, and have certainly touched mine. What a loving, giving person you are, my friend! There's nothing better than sharing your love of quilting with someone else. Definitely a work of 'heart'.
