Needle Inspiration
(need a little inspiration)

Yesterday I spent all afternoon and evening working on this adorable project. This is Kaaren's (The Painted Quilt) First Friday Freebie. Thank you, Kaaren, for sharing your talent with the world!

I've been thinking about my September project for Kelly's Charming Girls' Quilt Club and have decided on two new projects- woohoo!

#1 This book from Kim (Magnolia Bay Quilts) , is fabulous. The timing for working on a project from this book couldn't be more perfect! Why? In the introduction to the book, Kim writes about her friend who once told her that she felt 'burdened' by her fabric collection - screeeeeech - that's exactly how I've been feeling! I've challenged myself to make a quilt called "Kitchen Sink". BTW, every pattern in this book is based on 2 1/2" strips.

#2. I have yards of this fabric - it's an oldie by Sandy Gervais called "Nature's Kalidoscope". I don't do much in Fall colors but I'd love to have a new Fall quilt to hang in my entry way. Many have asked me to write the pattern for my "16 Patch" quilt so I've challenged myself to make the quilt while writing the pattern using this fabric and matching fat quarters. :-)

I hope that you'll stop by to cheer me on with these two new challenges! I'm going to need all the cheering I can get. LOL

Thanks for stopping by and thank you especially for all your encouraging and kind words.

In Friendship with Gratitude!

Oh my gosh Darlene, you finished that already? I haven't even printed it yet, lol! It turned out so cute!
That book looks great - I can relate to feeling burdened - I'll have to see if I can get that book.

Your challenges sound great, and I know you can do it - having these challenges really helps, doesn't it? I really need a deadline to get anything done.

Go Darlene, Go! What a great jump start. I have never seen Kim's book. It appears to be spiral bound. Is it a newer or older publication?

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I loved the 16-patch you showed earlier. Maybe this will be the project that jumpstarts you on a new path of quilting and pattern writing (and stash reducing!)

Yeah Darlene! I'm so glad that you're getting some of your "mojo" back. The quilt will be lovely, and how exciting that you'll be writing a pattern. Go Darlene Go!

Your stitchery project is so adorable! And so nice for autumn. Thanks so much for your kind words about my book. I'm thrilled that you're enjoying it, and I can't wait to see your kitchen sink quilt. And put me down for a copy of your pattern when it's available!

I can see you have some work ahead of you. Quilting and writing a pattern along the way. It is nice to use up some of the stash and not feel burdened by it isn't it? Slowly - like eating an elephant.

I love that little crow! And I love your choice of border fabric. You're making me want to go pull out my stitcheries and get to work. Keep inspiring me!!!

That book looks like a dandy... will have to look that one up!

Your Stitchery is lovely... I don't do hand stitchery like a lot of you talented gals... I cheat and do machine embroidery tee hee... but I do like the look of all the lovely hand work I see :O)

Oh love your stitchery. Just back from a little trip and I'm playing catch-up. Anything titled Kitchen Sink is going to be fun. Best of luck with the pattern writing. I love all things Fall.

Mary said...

Oooh I love the way your stitchery turned out! I also downloaded the pattern but have added it to my list of projects. I am tempted to move it towards the top of the list.

I can certainly relate to the feeling "burdened". My job has become even more intense over the last few months and by the time I get home I am exhausted. I have every intention of sewing but somehow don't quite get there at night. I keep looking at the sewing room and stash -- thinking I will never get through it all. That book sounds like a good start!

Happy Stitchin!

I've had my eye on that same book for a while but can never catch it on sale at Joanns... one of these days I'll use my coupon on it when I don't need something else.......until then, I'll just enjoy watching your quilt come together ;)

Love from Texas! ~bonnie
