Oh, I Need a Lady-In-Waiting!

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed today - sigh!

The laundry is piled high!

The bathrooms need to be cleaned (icky job).

The floors need more than to just be swept with a glance!

The protective coating (dust) on the furniture needs to be removed.

The clutter needs to be cleared out.

All I want to do is sew but when I think about sewing I start to feel guilty because there are others things that need my time and attention. Sigh! So here I sit doing absolutely nothing! Ack!!!!! It's a vicicous circle.

What to do? What to do?

Needed to vent! Thank you! :-)

In Friendship!

I am so with you on this. When you find one, please send all other applicants my way. I just want my lady in waiting to refold all my fabric and get my sewing room spotless. I wish I was Samantha from Bewitched.

Oh, I know what you mean. I could use help too!

Same here!

Those kids and husband of mine insists on wearing clean clothes each day and dirties up my dishes.

...psh! :)

I get that way sometimes. So I just do a little of the housework and then sew and forget the rest until later. Needless to say my house is pretty much always a mess! LOL

Ahhhh...the life of a quilter. I think we all have this issue. I prefer the "if I don't look at it, it's not dirty" method.

But hey...hat's just me.

*wink*

Hmm...Housework or sewing, that's a no-brainer Lol!
Seriously though I know what you mean, I get my kids to go round and tidy up ten things each(depending on how messy the house is) and just turn the music up and get stuck in, think of it as your daily exercise as well!

Add me to the guilty list...I go as long as I can ignoring the chores and then I have to just get it done.

What a great idea - someone to do our bidding and we would only have to sew - but only if we wanted to.

We all have those days where we want to sew, but know that we really should be doing housework. If you figure how not to feel the guilt, let me know.

Call me crazy but I can't concentrate on anything is I know there are chores waiting for me to do. I can't stand having that nagging little witch constantly stealing my thoughts away, robbing me of my concentration. So I've learned the hard way. Get the unpleasant duties out of the way and the rest of the time is M-I-N-E.

I'm not saying that this will work for everyone but it sure works for me and I'm twice as productive when the witch is sleeping and has nothing to nag about.

Sounds like you need my teen boys - the oldest vacuumed today for me. Shall I send him over?

I'm with you! Here's what I did last week...picked a job...like getting rid of the protective coating on the furniture...did it and then rewarded myself with lots of sewing time. The next day picked another job and the house was back in order in no time...before hubby returned from being out of town...LOL!

That is exactly how I have been feeling...too overwhelmed so I do nothing!! What's with that?

I hear ya on the cleaning, I would rather sew too. So, what did you decide to do, ease your guilt or have fun in the sewing room?

I enlist help with the chores~ they dirty the clothes, the floors, and dishes too!~ :-) Any job goes faster when 2 or more work at it. ;-) Hope you find a way to get back to your machine soon. ;-)

I'm with you, and Carol does exactly what I do. Clean a little, reward myself with quilting, repeat.

I vote for quilting. The housework will wait.

I can totally relate to your post. I often use a timer and do an icky job for 15 minutes. When the timer goes off I reward myself with 15 minutes of sewing. That way both something I hate doing and something I love doing get accomplished. It's really amazing how little time those nasty jobs take because I know I only have to work for 15 minutes. Try it. It works!

I had always been one of those quilters that couldn't quilt unless all was done and well with the world (so to speak)...I've had to learn to live with a few dust bunnies....they are my pets! Hee! Actually...I am same way...still need to have a tidy home to quilt!

Kim said...

And I am like Mary! Those dust bunnies start to talk to me after a while. I never get my entire house clean at the same time. Exercise, getting out for my walks each day nags at me more than my keeping chores.

You are not alone in this feeling, mother, wife ,cook ,cleaner...but we love to sew and feel the best about ourselves when we are creating, so that's why we want to do it all the time!

Feel a little like that too...just need to breathe and take one step at a time.

Well, I know how you feel! I just work a while and then reward myself with sewing. Then work a little while and take my reward...usually I get more sewing done than working on the house. Oh, well...

I think my solution to that dilema we all find ourselves in sometimes, is to do just one thing from the list, then go sew with a virtuous feeling!

Deb said...

I see that you are not alone in this frightening state.. what is pushing me to get it done is company this weekend..but my design wall keeps winking at me to come and play!! but I am now pushed..hope you said to heck with it and started to sew!!

It's hard to fit everything into one day, that's for sure. Somedays I do more sewing than cleaning, other days it's the other way around.....

When I feel overwhelmed with house tasks and want to create I have a system. I do one task (or spend 15 -20 minutes cleaning) and then take time to create, one step or 30 minutes. This way household tasks get done and I get play time.

I'm sorry. Can't help you. YOu just described my life....

I feel your pain. "Protective covering" ? So that's what it's called! I'll have to tell Dear Hubby.

I'm so glad you share your struggles - I struggle with very same thing! Just how do you keep sewing in perspective with all of the other priorities in life?? I hadn't thought of a Lady in Waiting, but I might just ask for one LOL!!
