Charming Girls Quilt Club

I love being a member of the Charming Girls Quilt Club and I can't believe it's already been a year - a fun year!

New year - new club goals. WooHoo! Thank you Kelly for making time to facilitate this fabulous club. :-)

We're not setting monthly goals - now we're setting goals for two months at a time. And, it's not just about quilting and such - it's about so much more Works for me! :-)

July and August Goals

A theme for us is "SELF CARE" as well as quilting and such. I'm going to try to incorporate "self care" into my quilting. I love to sew - I'm a processor - for me it's about doing and staying busy! I find myself holding back from sewing because I get asked on a very regular basis why I sew so much. Why do I have such an urge to make so many quilts? What am going to do with them? Etc. I hold back because I'm made to feel that I have to apologize for having a hobby that I'm truly passionate about. Yes, I know I'm the only one that can control my feelings but I was raised in the "Church of Perpetual Guilt" so ......... (well, you get the idea - LOL). So part of my "SELF CARE" is to work harder at just enjoying everything I love to do without feeling that I have to explain myself. It's all part of my 'seeking acceptance' personality quirk.

I have big plans - huge - really big - I plan to SEW LIKE THE WIND! Ya'll ready for ME? LOL

I will continue to work on my stitchery projects - gotta have something to do while I watch baseball.

I will work very hard to keep up with my Block of the Month projects.

I spent last Saturday pre-cutting some projects. You know I can be very prolific when I spend time precutting.

Breakfast at Tiffany's by Fig Tree Designs for Moda (finished this one yesterday - I'll show you soon)

Bliss - my all time favorite line introduced at Spring Market in May. Swoon!!! :-)

Oz by Senae for Moda (very different for me but I love it)

Botany by Moda (again very different for me but it's perfect for the project)

I almost forgot about Year of the Schnibbles projects for July (Joy Luck) & August - this has been so much fun. Sherri & Sinta have worked so hard and made it so much fun - thank you, Ladies!
*
I'm really excited about my goals and projects - I hope you'll cheer me on!
*

Reminder: Don't forget to visit Kelly at Charming Chatter to post a link to your "Between Charming Friends' quilt - it's time for the parade of quilts. WooHoo!
*

Again, thank you so much for your care and concern for Mr Daze - he's doing great. I tried to reply to all your good wishes and good thoughts from Tuesday and working on yesterday's comments. For some reason some of my responses for bouncing back but please know that I have replied to your comment as long as you weren't set for "no reply".

In Friendship!

In reading your post about self-care, I wanted to add my two cents! Actually, the only one who thinks I'm nuts for all the sewing that I do is my sister. She can't understand what I do with all the quilts I make (and I don't make nearly as many as a lot of quilters). She doesn't like scrap quilts, which I love and she says she doesn't have any more room to hang anything on her walls (not true). I did give her a "cheater" quilt once and she likes it, but I hesitate giving her any other quilts. She has a few quilts that my mom made, but never uses them because of her cats. My kids, DILs and DH are fine with my quilting - it keeps me out of other trouble!

First and foremost, hugs and blessings to Mr. Daze. I'm catching up on blogs and I see the news of hubby. Please know I hope he continues on a path of recovery and hope. My good wishes are for both of you - with love.

A list of goals that are wonderful and beautiful.

I so related to this post, Darlene, about being often asked why I sew/quilt so much. Thank you for putting it into words for me. It's simply a hobby, a passion - something I love to do and get such pleasure from it.

And finding people like you through the world of blogging that have the same passion is wonderful.

How can it be wrong to do something that in itself is good, and into which you put your own goodness? Other people don't question my sewing, but I question myself. But then I think that if God gave me this talent, it would be very wrong not to use it for good. I look forward to seeing all of your projects. Have fun with them.

I am the same way Darlene, I make quilts because it's what I do! I can't explain it. People including family have asked "what are you going to DO with them all?" I shrug. Why must I DO anything with them? Some get gifted, some are donated, some decorate my home and some I just keep. It's what I do AND who I am.

Glad to hear Mr. Daze is doing well! And wow, you sure have a number of projects there! I like that Bliss fabric, might have to make something with that too.

Love your self-care post! I hate it when someone says...what are you going to do with that quilt? I say...add it to my collection or give it away. Quilting is all about me most of the time...it is what I do for me...no more guilt, Darlene!

My response to people/hubby/whomever about quilting is "Did anybody ever ask Monet or Van Gogh if he was done painting". OK, I have enough paintings, I think I'll stop.

Not hardly!! Quilting and piecing is my therapy that keeps me sane:)

I've been catching up with your posts and there has been a lot happening with your life of late. I pray that your DH's heart problem gets resolved soon.

If I didn't quilt, I would literally be totally bored! If my hands are not busy, then I would be eating. Quilting is my passion and an outlet for my creativity. Quilting has kept me sane through bad times. My DH and I enjoy the quilts/hangings that I made and have displayed throughout our home; we enjoy sleeping under them .... we simply enjoy them. Those that get gifted or donated will keep someone warm.

I get asked the same question and now just simily say: 'ask God that question'. No further need for any explanation.

We are here on this earth only once and if making quilts is what we want to do, then by golly, make quilts and the heck with the rest of the world. Keep on quilting, dear friend and I look forward to seeing all the goodness you will be creating!

Darlene,

I'm very excited to see your finished projects from all the precuts, material is beautiful! I use quilting as a therapy, not only because I finally found a hobby that I love, but the time spent focusing on quilting in my well lit sewing room is a wonderful remedy for my depression, which is really bad during the winter months with too much snow and not much light. I spend many hours a day/week quilting and have received the same questions about what will I do with them all? Doesn't matter, family and true friends understand why you spend time on this passion and that's all that matters.

Keep doing what you love!

You Sew Girl! I'm so glad you're back for another year! I can't wait to see all of those pretty projects you've got going! Oh, how I hate that pesky guilt (sigh)! I'm so glad to see you just enjoy what you love!!!!

Darlene - good for you! Keep on sewing! I never apologize for my sewing time or how many quilts I make - as long as my responsibilities are taken care of, and hubby doesn't feel left out, this is what makes me happy! So, good goal!

I mentioned something about a sewing machine to a gal at work yesterday and she said "you are so lucky to have something you love to do so much". I think that often - I feel so lucky to have such a passion in my life!

Silly me forgot to post my goals before I left for vacation. It was too late when I came home. Guess I will have to live precariously through yours!!

You are so right my friend. Sometimes I think I do too much for myself but sewing is how I fuel the rest of my life. It is selfish time but I can't move forward in my life without it.
