The Heat is On!

Our temperatures have been real scorchers recently - 115 degrees a couple of days last week. It's 8:00 PM and it's 102 degrees. Ugh! I was telling a friend the other day that it was so hot it felt like I was walking in an oven. The next day he pointed out that we had a slight breeze - I rolled my eyes and said "ok, so now I'm walking in a convection oven". Double Ugh!!!! LOL

I've been spending time heating up my sewing room and having lots of fun. :-)

Another attempt to manicure my stash. Not long ago I cut my American Primer fat quarter leftovers to make Big Schnibble "Plan C". I put it all aside because I couldn't decide on a background fabric. On Sunday I exchanged e-mails with Vicky and we agreed that Bella Ivory by Moda would work beautifully. Thank you for your help, Vicky! I had also been second guessing using the green prints. Sunday I decided it was time to git'er dun. LOL I have to admit that I LOVE it. :-)

Fresh Cottons by Fig Tree Designs is sweet line of fabrics. Just two layer cakes to make Big Schibble "Little Red". Today I ordered the cream tone-on-tone for the inner border and the brown large floral print for the outer border and binding. I can't wait to see it with the borders.

I'd much rather spend time heating up my sewing room than walking in the outdoor oven (regular or convection). LOL

I hope you're heating up your sewing room, too.

I appreciate your visit - I hope you'll come back soon.

In Friendship!

Both of these look great! I love the combo of pattern and fabrics. Now you're tempting me to work on a big Schnibble. So many cool quilt ideas I want to stitch up. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh, you have been busy sewing :o) Loooooove both your quilt tops! "Little Red" looks so soft and pretty in those Fig Tree fabrics, and that "Plan C" -yummmm!!! Think I'll give a large Schnibble a go one of these days :o) I just finished quilting my little Plan C (made from bits and pieces from my scrap box), and escaping the city heat I'll bring the binding with me to my family's summer house later today!

Happy quilting! ...and stay cool ;o)

They're both great quilts, but the second one is definitely my favourite.

We not only have heat (not that high) but the wickedness of humidity too! This is when I love spending time is my sewing basement...barefeet, cool floor. Beautiful projects Darlene.

Busy girl! I love the Fresh Cottons quilt - I've got a jelly roll and honey bun in the same fabric just waiting for me to find time to make it up - can't wait! Thanks for sharing!

Love both your finishes and fabric choices. The heat is draining I know, but it never gets that hot here, so it seems we are always wishing for hotter days. Enjoy your cool sewing room!

It's been hot here too! Nothing much to do but sew! LOL Love the American Primer quilt! :0)

The background looks great! And I'm totally in love with the big Little Red. It looks amazing.

I'm still working on my little Schnibbles. Have I told you I love this book? :-)

It's been hot here for so long that I've gotten a little crispy on the edges. I'm so ready for winter.

Oh, I remember those hot days when we lived in Texas. I feel for you.
What are plans X, Y, & Z going to be? LOL!

You're so funny -- I wish someone would turn on the fan here, so we could have convection too. Very Pretty quilt tops!

I love how both of them look, the ivory is a nice solid. Poor you with the heat, I hope you get a little relief soon.

You know it is funny, people tell me it's too hot to live in Florida. But if truth be known, it was hotter in Illinois in late July then in Florida (the one year we traveled there). We've been in the high 90's but rains have cooled it down into the high 70's at times. Your Schnibbles are very beautiful. One of these days I will get back to Schnibbling. But for now.........packing :-)

Whoa 115 makes me so glad I'm not home right now. The weather here in CO has been nice, rained and hailed yesterday. I love both of your quilts, it's such s good feeling to get stuff done.

OH! I LOVE your big Plan C!!!

Both of these quilts are lovely. I guess we have been pretty lucky here in Missouri. Our highs for the past couple of weeks have been in the 80's, but the heat is coming. Try to stay cool. Winona

Plan C turned out great, Darlene! Shucks, I was of no help at all, but it was nice of you to say so. Love the Fresh Cottons. I need to break out my Schnibbles X2 book and get going!

Your post made me laugh this morning, I told my husband about the convention oven and he laughed too. I love your "Little Red" done in those soft fabrics. Thanks for a good morning chuckle.

*SNORT* Convection oven - oh that's funny! Hot here too but no 100's - although above 95 it doesn't seem to matter much, it's just HOT. The only a/c we have is in my sewing room and it's not working great. No ironing for me!
Your quilts are flat-out gorgeous, Darlene, the American Primer fabrics go perfect in that quilt!!!!!

AnnieO said...

Very pretty quilts! I love the American Primer line, which I just discovered. I had bought two yards of red fabric earlier this year and then found a fat quarter of the same fabric in the green colorway--they are Recess from that line. I see you have used them in your first photo there!

My brother and his wife and family are here from Scottsdale, they rented a beach house and so far in SoCal it has been nothing but fog, overcast skies, mist, and wind--not a beach day in sight! But at least they are out of the oven :)

Carrie said...

Oh my gosh! They're both gorgeous! I love them! And no, I don't think I can pick a favorite ~ they're equally yummy!

I also love the "convection oven" comment ~ that's absolutely perfect. It's dry but it's still heat... HEAT. As in, very, very HOT!

Okay so I am new to your blog....loving' it by the way! But I don't what "Schibble" is. Is that the pattern name? I adore both of the quilts! I found you via Missouri Star Quilt Company....yahoo Love them! Happy Wednesday.

You collect the prettiest fabric!

Love the new quilt tops. The cream was perfect for the background and I must admit, the green is my favorite part. Little Red looks wonderful in the Fresh Cottons. Can't wait to see the borders on.
Hope you get some cooler weather soon. Keep the AC cranking.

Now that's the kind of cooking I like to see on a hot day, Darlene! Love them both! We're finally getting into triple digits, so after Sisters this weekend, I plan to heat up my sewing room, too!
Cheers!

We are having the same weather as you here, Darlene and this is Canada. It's absolutely brutal! It never got this hot when we lived in south Florida for 15 years. Yuk!

You've been busy and so have I. It;s too darned hot to venture outdoors so what better to do than stay inside where it's cool and sew up a storm! Your two latest projects are gorgeous. Love then both!

Such lovely quilt tops! I wish I could sew :( It's just too hot to put the iron on...I couldn't bear it. Our heat is supposed to break sometime this weekend...maybe next week I can get back at it.

Joanna said...

I like both the quilt tops, but especially the second one. It's a very different design, isn't it?
In the Northeast we've have what are scorchers to us, temps in the high 90's. We hit 100 yesterday, and it was awful. At 115 I'd be melted I think.

Ginger Patches said...

Those are two gorgeous quilts!! What do you guys do if your a/c breaks down? That was my first thought when you quoted those temps...wow that is HOT!!! It's been on the chilly side here...I am NOT complaining lol!!!

JoAnn ( Scene Through My Eyes) said...

I love them both - aren't quilts such fun. We are warming up here too in the PNW - more than we want - but cooling is on its way - it always is up here. I don't miss those convection - or conventional - oven days when we lived in the desert. I'm keeping busy - and cool - in my studio making quilts too.

Jeanne said...

Love both of your quilts! It's been an oven here, but should cool down today after it rains.

Carrie P. said...

I'll trade you your heat for our heat and humidity. 99* plus humidity. I am staying in where it is cool too.
I love both those tops. The fig tree one is such a neat pattern.

SheilaC said...

But isn't it a "dry heat"??? But seriously, I feel your pain, as we have been hot (95-100) AND humid for a week....

I don't even feel like sewing... :(

Hopefully better this weekend!

I DO love your quilts!
