Now What????
*
My crazed life is finally starting to get back to normal and I'm wondering "Now What"? This is like the calm after a storm.
*
Mr Daze is recovering nicely and walking with a cane. woohoo! However, I will be very happy when he can drive again.
*
Our daughter has delivered Shaye and they're settling into a nice routine. Life is good for her sweet family. Makes this momma very happy. :-)
*
So....Now what?????
*
Yesterday I decided it was definitely time to clean up the mega mess in my sewing room. During the cleaning and tidying up process I got super disgusted with myself. I was chastising myself for all the quilting stuffus I have; the huge pile of flimsies, the even bigger pile of quilts, etc. I threw my hands in the air and walked out in utter disgust.
*
I have a handful of Christmas and birthday gifts that I'm super behind on but ......
*
I start to get excited about a project and then ask myself why? This is ridiculous - I've become my own worst enemy. Sigh!!!
*
This is not a slump just frustration with me, myself and I.
:-(
*
Thanks for 'listening'.
*
In Friendship!

Darlene, I am so excited that someone else feels the way I do about all the stuffus I have! Makes me feel not quite so...so...out-of-control!

So glad Mr. Daze is on the road to recovery. Just take care of you, too....

Hugs!

I get frustrated too sometimes. I have one project that I work on when I get frustrated because it has no deadline. It usually gets me out of my frustration and then I go back to my other things. You are just too talented at so many things.

I feel your pain! I recently worked on cleaning my sewing room and found over 25 unfinished projects. (The real total is probably over 30 but I didn't want to admit to everything...) I posted pictures of the unfinished projects: http://libbieshome.blogspot.com/2011/01/where-to-begin-with-my-new-years.html
and that has been a good motivator for getting some of the projects done. Good luck regaining control of your stuffus! :)

I've been there. What's the advice you always give me Darlene?? ..."Just breathe." You'll be full of inspiration soon! :-)

I haven't gotten my Christmas cards out yet. It's not that I don't care it's just that this time of year goes crazy with work but our income drops horribly even with all my overtime. Maybe this is how your life goes. Don't get too upset with yourself bz I think we all have our moments. I'm thinking that Valentine cards this year don't sound so bad to get from me. :)

Stop...take a deep breath...and cut yourself some slack. Quilting is suppsoed to be fun! We can't get down on ourselves because we've enjoyed making tops that aren't quilted, or that we've enjoyed making more quilts than we have room for. If they're quilts you love, find a place to display them. If they're tops you love, finish them. If not give them away or sell them. Just take a moment to get yourself back on track and all will be fine! :0)

AMEN to what everyone else has said...don't be too hard on yourself...you've had tons slam into you all at one time. Take a deep breath...when you go back to the sewing room it will be easier...and if there are things that just don't float your boat anymore, get rid of them...the stuffus makes us NUTS! BREATHE!

I have so been there! Sometimes walking away is a good thing-gives you perspective...then you can resume when your heart is in it...

I think you need a nice relaxing project to do right now. Nthing to think abt, no planning, no work!!! After what you've had on yoru plate, you need comfort quilting.

and I COMPLETELY get the throwing-hands-in-air-storming-out-of-room feeling.

TAke a deep breath! Now let it out s l o w l y. Again...In.... Out. I've decided that my frustration is caused by all those bloggy people out there. You know, the talented ones (like Darlene)who continually crank out beautiful, inspirational, multitudes of awesome quilts. I want to make them all, but my job gets in the way of my living the life I'd like to be living. So, I'm trying to rein in my 'wants' list, so that it's achievable. I guess I could quit blog-hopping, but what fun would THAT be? If you need a reason to make your next quilt, let me know, and I'll pick one out for you to make to send to me!
Hope you're feeling better soon. Curl up with a quilt and a good book and take some time off.

It's a journey, we all go thru this at some point to some degree. Just pick one thing and start. You might not work very long on that, but I bet it gets the juices going again :)

Ahh the dilemma of quilters! But isn't it a fun hobby!? Relax and enjoy it~ the flimsies served their purpose and you learned a new technique or pattern. They will wait to be quilted until you are ready. So glad Mr Daze is recuperating nicely! Have a happy day!

Quilting stufus (or crafting stufus) does seem to exponentially expand when one is not looking. This is due to bulk that transfers into bits and spreads about, all without wind. Amazing scientific fact!

Don't be too hard on yourself.

Glad Mr. Daze and the new grandbaby are progressing nicely.

Eh. it too, shall pass. I need to get into my sewing room and get it cleaned up. There are things I know I bought but I can't find them.

Sherri said...

So much good advice here...hope you're feeling better soon!

Allie said...

Darlene, just relax and enjoy the calm! It will pass, and you'll find yourself wanting to be creative again. As you clean, take time to enjoy what you have, to try to look at it with new eyes and appreciate it. You made these things because you loved them....and under the frustration, you still do.

So glad Mr. Daze is recovering well!

I can totally relate Darlene! My sewing area looks like a tornado went through it and I can't bring myself to clean it up, not yet, where to start I ask myself
(shudder). Glad your DH is recovering well from his surg and congrats on your sweet little GD, what a little cutie-pie!

toots, I think it is really about everything that you've had on your shoulders lately- worry about Mr Daze, taking care of the house yard life DRIVING etc by yourself, concern about imminent birth of grandchild ... lots of heavy duty stuff there.

Go take a walk outside even if you have to bundle up - get some fresh air and I promise that you will feel better.

I am glad to see you stick your head in the blog world for a few minutes but it would also be helpful to step away from the internet too for a few days... make life as simple as possible

ps... you can always send me fabric to help clean up the room ;-))))

big hug to YOU

Barbara

I hear you! I'm the same way! Try to be loving and kind to yourself. And start something new to get the relaxation vibes going. There will always be time for cleaning up and organizing.

It's OK to have all that stuffus - we're helping keep the quilt shops open! They have to make a living, too!

I feel sometimes like I have too many quilts, too much fabric, etc. at times. I think we've all been there.

Just start something new and fun, or make a charity quilt. You'll feel better - you deserve it!

I would consider that opportunity to do whatever in the world makes you happy. Just pick a project (or start a new one!). Sometimes when I feel like there's too much stuff in my room, I'll put it in a box and hide it for a while. My room looks and feels better and it allows me to play with something I like -- guilt free! Hope you get back in your creative groove soon.

You have one step up on me, I'm too scared to clean my sewing room. Just work on what makes you feel good.

I think you need to go shopping! Just kidding!

Happy to hear that Ron is on the mend. Hugs to both of you.

Now what? get back in there and get organized so you can start creating again!!

Darlene! Just hear yourself...you have all these wonderful projects waiting for you complete. All you got to do is pick ONE and work on it...don't think of the 101 other projects waiting. When that ONE is finished you are going to feel wonderful!! And the good news is you get to pick another one to finish...you are SEW lucky!!
So did my sales pitch work?? huh? huh?
So glad hubby is on the mends!!
Take care!

Oh, Lordy, welcome to my world!!!

Sounds like like....I get frustrated just like you.... Just take it a day at a time....Put on some music... look at the projects or fabrics as old friends...

Deanna said...

Oh, be nice to yourself. If you walked into my sewing space and it was a mess (not that it ever is, of course) would you EVER say something so unkind? No, of course not. You would understand that life has been complicated and I have too many ideas and too little time and I'm not good and saying NO when people ask for something and I love to give handmade gifts and...SO, be nice to yourself, too!

Darlene,

I'm not sure if it's the time of year, or what but you have my sentiments towards my quilting room to perfection! I was just complaining to the DH last weekend that I was sick of the mess in there, can't find anything, even though I know I have the stuff, and there are PILES every where. I'm so frustrated with it, that I don't even know where to begin at this point, and it's hindering my sewing...because I just don't even want to face it.

Glad to hear that Mr. Daze is doing better, and enjoy that little bundle of joy, they grow up way too fast!

Darlene my friend, Just sit quietly and it will come to you. Always remember too that we are all quilters and go through the same issues...well, I hope to, LOL. If I ever get into my new sewing room to really make a mess sewing up a storm. I do need to build up my stash first though, LOL. Not a lot there! Big comforting hugs coming to you...

Thearica said...

Everyone goes through this from time to time... Just step back, reassess it all...turn out the lights, go for a coffee and a good book... and come back in the morning.. Everything looks better at the dawn of a new day...

My goodness, you've just gone through a lot, Darlene! Sometimes it's good to put a voice to the way you feel, and now you've done it - great - you can get on with things! I know you'll get there soon! Glad to hear Mr. Daze it doing well - when he can drive you ought to take a couple of days and have a little romantic outing away :>)
Cheers!

First off, congratulations on the new sweet bundle in your family...so beautiful!! Glad your hubby is recovering nicely. Like others have said, relax, breathe, don't beat yourself up. You have had a TON to deal with. As others have said we have all been there, and we are all here for you rooting you on!! (hugs)

Janet said...

I was looking for some stuff today and I thought the very same thing so you're not alone. It gets pretty bad when I can't find stuffus because I have too, too much. I even found some tops that I'd forgotton need quilting.

Kim said...

Oh, I hear you girl! You have been busy with several things in the sewing room and out, but now that the dust has settled so to speak you might need to take things up a notch. Trust me when I say you'll feel so much better if you move on to phase II of the creating process...quilt those flimsies! Then sort through and find them good homes. It's so exciting to cut new fabric, to piece latest quilt design, but a 'finish' brings a sense of happy accomplishment that new beginnings can't rival. Good luck. :-D

Kelly@ Charming Chatter said...

Oh, Darlene - wish I were there to just give you a big hug - and tell you it's all going to be okay. I'm in the same boat over here - but trying not to worry about it. And, might I remind you that all those flimsies and quilts you have - have been a HUGE inspiration to us quilters out there! You are an inspiration dear friend - and the rest is just stuffus! Love and hugs!!

Congrats on the new grandbaby! A lot's been going on while I've been away.

I know how you feel about the room situation. Up until a couple days again my room was a disaster...which is not very inspiring.
