Blocks of the Month

Sigh!

I am a total sucker for block of the month projects - especially the mystery one offered annually by The Fat Quarter Shop. 12 mystery blocks and setting designed by many of my favorite designers, beautiful fabric (this year it's Strawberry Fields by Fig Tree Quilts - huge swoon), packaged beautifully with lots of extra fabric and sent every month right on schedule. Seriously how can anyone resist it????? I really should - why - well I go gangbusters at the beginning and then 'poof' the love affair is over. Sigh!

I did spend yesterday afternoon making the first three blocks - yes I was already behind. Ugh!!!!

Do you see what I see? Look closer - there through the throat of my sewing machine - see them - the pretty packages of the 2010 FQS mystery quilt. The love affair ended months ago and I'm seriously behind.

BIG SIGH!!!!

Why does this happen?

Does this happen to you?

Help!

I hope you're having a wonderful day? I probably should spend my day working on those blocks - really I should. Shouldn't I? Will you cheer me on, please?????

In Friendship!

with a sigh!

Your blocks are beautiful girlie! I know you aren't the only one. Several people have told me while on the road that they so want to sign up for a new block of the month, but they are 'several' behind on more than one. So there you have it. You are not alone my friend!

These are such pretty blocks. This happened to me last year when we moved. The BOM were packed away, and I am still looking for them :-S I know they will turn up, but hopefully sooner then later ;-)

Well, if you are feeling competitive at all... you could make those blocks and know that I am trailing way behind you! LOL

Give me a "G"! Give me an "O"! GO Darlene, SEW! Now back away from the computer and start stitching. Wait a minute, I should be doing that, too. Stitch Sunny Stitch!!

Your not the only one - I just recently finished the top for a BOM that ENDED over a year ago. I have another that the blocks are done, but I haven't set it into a top yet. But does it stop me from joining more BOM's? Nope. I am part of the designer mystery from TFQS, and have one that I have signed up for that starts in November...

Join the growing group popping up here and there. Yours is the 3rd post I've read in two days about the same thing--BOM's being ignored. The thrill has gone.
I have two sets of BOM, aging wonderfully in a box, and the desire to do them has long gone.
Yours look better than mine. Remember, the money is spent, the fabric selecting is done, they're ready to go, and the fabrics are so pretty.
Do you belong to a guild or group where you could find somebody who'd take them off your hands? Finish them for you? With the price of fabric these days, my stomach rolls, thinking of money spent and fabric not used.

Yes, it does happen to me! I've been good about not signing up for more BOMs (since I have so many unfinished ones!), but FQS offerings sure have been difficult to resist!

Maybe once you get going you'll enjoy it more then the idea of it!! Go girlfriend!! You can get them done!

Oh Darlene, LMAO...I'll cheer you on if you'll cheer me on. I ordered the 2009 Mystery BOM from the FQS and I did the first block...then I had surgery, then I started 2 monthly BOM's at 2 LQS's AND I had 2 others going. **sigh** Of the 5 BOM's I joined, I have finished 2. One is ready to put together (I'm working on that today), and the 4th one, Thimbleberries, 2008 needs only the final border then of to the longarm quilter for that one. BUT, my beautiful FQS 2009 still sits there. The fabrics are gorgeous, the quilt is the same and as you say, they send enough extra fabric that unless you mess up BIG TIME, you have enough leftovers for a little quilt and probably a table topper or two...or pillow shams. I know I had enough HST's left from the first blog to do another just like it. There it sits. LOL! I have been away from my quilting for almost 18 months now due to health issues and surgeries but I've been setting aside time every single day for sewing for the last week now and things are looking up. I have my carrot out in plain view so that I can see the reward that awaits me when I finish up at least two of my BOMs. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'll do the same for you. Big Hugs...

**NOTE...yes I know that leaves 2 BOMs unfinished, but hey, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do right?

Pretty blocks! Don't worry about being behind - sometimes projects need to age and when the time is right you'll have all the fabrics you need to sew them up. And if you don't get them now, you will only regret it later. Its not the fabric I buy that bothers me but the stuff that got away! LOL! See anything can be justified!

I love it! This one is much cuter than the other so it's okay that it's not done.

You can finish them, yes you can! And when you're done, we'll all do the Happy Dance for you :D

I still am finishing the 2009 one. Almost there....

ROFLOL. Welcome to my world. I think I have the FIRST designer mystery still hanging around with only three or so blocks done! You're in good company, hon! :)

Go, Darlene! Go Darlene! You can do it and you will be so glad you did. Strawberry Fields is such a pretty fabric line.

You're certainly not alone. I started 5 BOMs in 2004. (I know, I was crazy!) I was keeping up until both of my daughters decided to get married 6 wks. apart. Gasp! I have since finished 4 of them but there is the elusive "All around Town" BOM that is hiding in the depths of the closet and hasn't seen the light of day for over seven years.

You have been on such a roll! Love the new blocks. If last year's blocks no longer excite you, just send them to me. :-)) No? Then get sewing girl!! ;-) I know you can do it! Have a happy evening!

I have the last block from the 2010 BOM to finish and then get the top together. I don't know why but I'm not feeling the love. Your 2011 blocks are very pretty, Darlene!!

I think you're preaching to the choir here, lol - give it enough time and you'll fall in love with it all over again! It sure is gorgeous though, so get busy!

I still haven't finished the Pennsylvania Dutch BOM from FQS. I got stuck on one and still haven't gone back to it.

This summer my LQS was doing a block a week for 12 weeks. I decided to do it so I could prove to myself that I could do it. Guess what happened? The LQS decided to close up shop! They are letting us get the final blocks but heck, this was supposed to be my triumphant completion.

I am like this with most quilting projects...in love at the beginning and then it starts to wane :)
I have only done one BOM with fabric and it took me 3 years to do (my BeAttitudes). So I am ready to take on another one!

Pfttt - I"m always behind and have more projects bought and lined up than I could ever finish!

Linda said...

Are we twins?? LOL! Every block of the month I've ever started, I always end up falling behind. In fact, I have to complete one!! :-)

QuiltSue said...

If you really are out of love with it, why not use the fabric for something else, or do the blocks in different fabrics? I'm sure that you're not the only one though who is behind.

Wow, what great blocks. You do some awesome piecing!!! Lovely to look at.

I can so relate. I have several BOM to finish. I started 2 this year with local groups. What was I thinking?

Debi said...

Very pretty blocks, come on Darlene, you can do this..just imagine how beautiful the top will be when you are finished!

Being unemployed, staying at home in your sewing room might be more stressful than having a job LOL!! Make a list, you'll get it all done.

Wendy said...

You are doing great. I'm always behind, it's called ADD (another darn distraction) it was on one of the blogs and I love it.

Kaaren said...

I find myself either falling terribly behind and then get stressed out because I'm behind or I stress myself out trying to do them as they arrive so that I don't fall behind. Either way, Darlene, it's a lose/lose situation for me so the best advice I can give you is to just do them when you can or when the mood strikes.

Just remember, you are not alone, my friend. *wink*
