Quilting and Such

It's been ten days since I've been on my own blog! Shame on me! Just haven't had anything to blog about. The quilting slump continues however I finally have some plans. And, I have to say that I'm really excited about these plans. I have decided that in 2007 I will concentrate on the following:

1. Quilt the pile of 97 quilt tops
2. Work on handapplique (I have a long list of projects & more to buy LOL)
3. Work on stitchery
4. Hopefully learn how to handquilt.
5. Piece only when the mood strikes and not fret if I don't sit at my machine

So, over the course of the next few days and weeks I'm going to organize and make a list of all the applique projects that I have. Find some stitchery projects that speak to me and then let the chips fall where they may. I'm really excited about my plans and believe that I will be content, as I love handwork.

The quilt in the picture was a birthday gift from two of my friends year before last. I believe it's Matchstick Marimba by Terry Atkinson Designs (just a little something quilty to share)

So stay tuned for updates on my future projects. LOL

Again, I want to say thank you for all the kind and encouraging words so many of you have left via a comment here on my blog or e-mail. I appreciate it very much!

97? That makes my 25 that I had done last year look like small potatoes. =)

Good for you, making a plan.

Ohhhh, pretty quilt--from a distance it almost looks like picket fences.

Hang in there, Darlene and you may get the itch one of these days!

Yes that IS a Matchstick Marimba! I taught that as a class in Aug. I just LOVE Terry Atkinson's designs. One of my students sent me a picture of hers in Christmas colors. Check it out on my blog. Fun to see the different color combinations!

Woo hoo! Glad you're at least thinking about quilty things. Next year will be great to work on those tops :-)

Sounds like a perfect plan! The last few years I've spent primarily on handwork, and touched my machine only to stitch blocks together and put on borders. It's just since spring that I've felt the urge to piece again after several years. Nothing at all wrong with focusing on handwork!

nice to hear that you are planning what you want to do. I have also been thinking about what i want to work on next year and i've decided it will be the year of working and completing UFOs. I will look forward to reading and seeing your progress.

it's good to have a plan-think how much you will enjoy having those 97 quilts to snuggle under! or give away :-)

Do you really have 97 quilt tops???? WOW, and I feel bad about my few tops. I guess they are both big and small tops

That matchstick Marimba is a neat looking pattern! Are you going to quilt all 97 quilts yourself, or will you be sending them out????

Oh my....that is really pretty. I did something similar for a border on My Dandy earlier in the year. 97 tops??? Slow and Steady wins the race.

97 quilt tops - sounds like a little slump is an okay thing. I saw all the lovely quilts on you photo page. You make lovely quilts.

LOVE that Matchstick Marimba.

But, honey ... if you have 97 unquilted tops, maybe burn-out is your problem? Maybe a trip to the tropics is in order for New Year's?

Love that Marimba!

Good luck with the 2007 goals - can't wait to see the pictures of your progress!

Sounds like you've come up with a great plan for getting your groove back! I know it helps me to take a break from quilting and do something like crocheting or embroidering. It's still sewing but in a different style. Have fun with your projects. If we aren't having fun, why are we doing it?

Oh I love the matchstick quilt. What an easy cute idea for scraps! I love it!

Ooooh, I love that Matchstick Marimba - I might have to get that one for myself.

Your plan sounds like a great one -- I just find handwork so relaxing. There is no rule that says you must sit at a machine to be considered a quilter. Looks like your '07 goals are going to work out just right *s*

Wow, 97 is a LOT of tops. With that many tops to quilt a piecing slump isn't a bad thing! I have a stack myself and I'm not sure how many are in it but definitely fewer than 97!

Can't wait to see pictures of them all as you get them quilted this year.

YGood luck on your goals for 2007. Don't beat yourself up for the slump you are in. Every artist has them.

Darlene, it sounds like you have a plan! Writing your goals down is a good thing to do. It really helped me this past year. I now have 47 tops to be quilted and probably that many UFOs! I started sending some of mine out to be quilted and boy was it liberating. I actually have quilts I can use now! Good luck and keep us posted.

I like that quilt. Susan is working on the same pattern using all beige/tans for her daughter. I didn't think I'd like it but it's just beautiful. I want to do it too but of course mine will be in brights. :-)

That's quite a goal you've set for yourself next year - quilt 97 tops! Good luck. I'll be rooting for you.

That is a very nice looking quilt top. Are you serious? 97 tops? No wonder you're in a slump hon, that's daunting to take on!

I have this pattern started. Only have 4 more rows to sew to have a queen size for my daughter. Guess I need to pull it out soon and finish it. I love the picture of yours completed.
