RHUBARB & GINGER

No longer a flimsy! This was a Moda University quilt kit that I made sometime in late 2005 and yesterday I had the opportunity to quilt it. I’m so addicted to those dang Moda fabrics; I swear I could be their poster girl.

MORE RHUBARB & GINGER

Some of you may recall my Grandmother Flower Garden hexagon flowers that I was English paper piecing last year. I was having so much fun and couldn’t wait to get another flower finished. Then it all came to a screeching halt because after I found perfect fabric for the “path” (the area between the hexagon flowers) I couldn’t figure out how to put it all together. AAARRRGGGHHH – I felt like such a BIG dummy so I put it all away! Libby was kind enough to attempt to help me – she sent me diagrams and instructions and yet I’m still a BIG dummy. I bought books, yes more than one, and all they told me was how to make the flower - I already know how to do that, thank you very much. I can't find basic instructions to put the entire quilt top together. I'm really bummed about it, too. However, I’ve been thinking about making more flowers and maybe someday it will all click and I’ll put the quilt top together (don’t hold your breath!) LOL

Tomorrow I’ll show you what I quilted today! An oldie but a goodie! teehee

You know, there are diamond "papers" that you can paper piece onto for the 'path'. Then you stitch the path pieces to one side of the flower and stitch a flower onto the other side of the diamonds and so on. That's what I did. Hmm. Did I ever blog about the 2 Grandmother's flower Garden quilts I've made?

Oh sooo pretty, just love, love, love the fabrics you used. You must be one of these lucky ladies who has a quilting machine. You have been a busy little beaver.

Maybe I can find a diagram that will help you. I presume you want the path to be hexagons too, and not diamonds?

I'm right with you on the Moda fabrics. I could happily take home an entire bolt of every fabric they produce!

My mom is making something little with these fabrics, too! Your stars look great - so do the flowers. I was working some on my hexagons this weekend - no idea how I'm going to put mine together - or what I'm making from them!

Hi, dear !
LOVE, love what you did !
Now, about your hexagon flowers : just piece a HUGE amount of your path fabric, then surround a first "flower", and put a second flower next to it : you'll see the light !

XOXOXOXOXO

Wouldn't you just make a lot of hexagons in the path fabric, and then lay the whole lot out flat and fill in between the flowers with the path hexagons? Then you would sew them all together the same way as the flowers. Haven't tried it myself but looking at hexagon quilts this looks like the way they were made. Hope it comes together! Beautiful fabrics in that star quilt:)

That's still one of my favorite Moda lines - I love how both quilts have turned out. I hope you are able to figure out your path problem - that one will be beautiful. Moda Poster Girl - lol....

Your flower garden blocks look so cute all lined up against the wall! Those are fabulous fabrics. Love the star quilt also. Are you a machine quilter, longarm or what? I have never heard you mention actually quilting a top before. (Just kidding).

The rhubarb & ginger quilt is lovely. You and me both could be poster girls. I love moda fabrics. Their colours are oh... so rich. Can't help you of the GFG. The pattern scares me! lol Good luck!

Yes just baste more hexagons in your path fabric and sew them onto the outside of the flowers. Unless you have something more exotic in mind? You can applique the flowers onto the background, but that doesn't sound like much fun to me.

Maybe we just need to get together and get those hex's pieced together *s*

One of the ladies at my retreat was putting together the Flower Garden, she was using a diamond shaped piece to put the flowers together, I hadn't seen that before. Anyway I bought a book and it has some diagrams with putting the blocks together with hexagons. It might help you...don't know.
