I Came to Whine - LOL

I need to whine!  I hope you don't mind but I seriously need to whine!

A couple of nights ago I popped into a local quilt store to make a small purchase for a giveaway ( Hi Debby).  I seldom visit the local quilt stores because as you already know - I hate to go out.  :-)  And, I don't do much shopping because the budget is very tight.

I looked above one of the cutting tables and the Angels sang - ahhhhhhh (loud, too)
I was instantly smitten - in love - downright crazy about the quilt hanging above the cutting table.
Be still my quilting heart.
Why was I at the cutting table - I didn't need to have anything cut - BIG BIG SIGH!!!!
The cute sign on the quilt said "kit available" - hmmmm - took a gander over the kit section and sure enough there they were.  Sadly, the price $80 was way over my budget.  So I asked if they had just the 13 fat quarters required - nope - all gone.  :-(  See if they'd had just the fat quarters then I could have improvised for the rest of the required fabric (it needs a couple of yards of a background fabric - I have a bolt of white) and there is a yard piece required that was also gone but surely I could find it on line (I've looked and it's definitely available).  I can get the fat quarters on line, as well, but I don't know which ones were used and besides I can only find fat quarter bundles.....I only need 13 fat quarters.  The fat quarter bundles are approx $75 - might as well just buy the kit - it would be cheaper.
I failed to mention that the fabric is Flea Market Fancy.
Did you hear the angels?  LOL

So, I took my sad little face home.  Sigh!

I'm whining because I can't stop thinking about the silly kit so I figured if I whined the moment would pass.

Feel free to laugh at me - just the whims of a quilter.  LOL

I'm sewing and thinking about the kit that will never live at my house - LOL

Have a pieceful evening.

In Friendship!

I know just how you feel! I hate to be limited by a budget, but I need the limits. LOL Do you have a photo of your hearts desire?

Oh Darlene, I so know the feeling. I have to talk myself out of it by saying, I don't have time to make this, I have too many other projects to work on, the budget is tight right now.....etc,etc,etc.... Sigh.......What is the saying....
So much fabric, too little time ;-)

I know just how you feel Darlene. I have been there myself, saw a kit I just loved but if course it was way too much. Can you just buy the pattern? Just think of all the beautiful quilts you have made so far, I'm sure you have a few more you need to make. They might just take your mind off the new kit you can't stop thinking about.

I have bought kits a time or two and way overpaid just to find out the pattern was wrong or they didn't include enough of one of the fabrics. Most quilt shops want your buisness, give them a call and see if you can get just the pattern. I bet you someone somewhere has the fabric as single FQ's

I find that if I can wait a few days or a week, I tend to forget about what I liked so well. Good that you didn't make an impulse purchase. Try waiting a couple weeks and see what happens.

That sounds like me, there is a pattern quilt and fabric i want to do, but it is will cost to much. I'm waiting and hoping it will get cheaper. Have a great weekend !!

The best thing about quilting is that you are sure to fall in love with something even better soon! Thanks though for reminding me why I don't wander into my LQS on a regular basis ;-).

You poor thing. I just tell myself that something else will come along soon. And I already have more fabric than I could ever use. Hope you feel better soon!!

Wish you could have that kit Darlene. What's the name of the pattern used, if you know it? I haven't bought any Flea Market Fancy yet. I just saw on Melissa's blog that Denise Schmidt fabric at Joann's is on the clearance rack and reduced even more for Columus Day sale.

the name of line beggggssss to be free! oh well I am here for you!

I know how you feel about the budget. Can you get the pattern and then find the FQ's needed. Or sometimes another project comes along and I've forgotten about that one. Good luck!

Been there, done that! If I had any of the fabric I would be glad to send it to you. Sadly, I don't.

Whining is sometimes necessary :)

I'll echo the previous poster who said that fat quarter fabric is available at JoAnn's. They sell it in precut yards of four fat quarters for $15 or so and I bet you can use a coupon.

Oh Darlene, I too, like most of the others don't have the means to walk into a quilt shop, or pop online and purchase a bundle of fabric or kits. "It is what it is"...as my daughter is always saying. My finances don't stop me from looking and drooling and dreaming though, LOL. So like you, I would have gone home without the kit too. In all honesty, I have (still do) own 2 Fabric bundles, one is fat quarters of Me and My sister collection that I won in giveaway 3 years ago, the other is a half yard bundle of Carrie Nelsons so cheerful and gorgeous collection 'Nine Dots'...it was a gift from Carrie. I just don't see a day coming when I can purchase a beautiful FQB and a little yardage to match, not with my medical bills. But here's the thing...I thank the good Lord everyday for blessing me with the means to have good medical care and to keep my bills paid. All the rest is icing on the cake. I have to admit that I've always been a "glass half empty" kind of girl, but when I look at my empty fabric shelves in my sewing room, I truly do see them as "shelves half full", because I can always pull together enough to make something, usually scrappy, but then, I love scrappy projects. Big Hugs coming to you my Wonder Quilter...

***PS...Email me one of these days Darlene, I have a question for you. More hugs comin at'cha :o)

Oh, I sympathize, that Flea Market Fancy line is so cute. I don't have a single piece of it, either.

Oh my goodness...I truly understand! You see a kit that just says "buy me" but you know it really shouldn't come home with you. We all have a passion for sewing and quilting, but it is a very expensive hobby, so I guess it's all about priorities, at least at the moment. You were a very courageous and strong woman to leave the store unkitted!

Well there is a "fabrisc De-stash" page on Facebook, if you have fabric you don't want, or need, you could sell it. Then you might have enough money to buy the kit you do want........It is just a thought.

I know exactly how you feel!!! Lol!! I have passed on fabric/kits too. Eventually, I set my sights on something new. Lol!!!

Feel your pain on this one too!!! Just found something online that I talked myself out of...I'm going to find an old kit I haven't done and make it...hoping the desire for the new one goes away!!!!

I know how you feel. I have to pace my spending. There are so many things I want. I fill up many internet baskets then don't check out. I just like to see what my money could buy.

I know where your at I have a few fabrics I want yards of and hopefully next month I can get them!

Carol said...

Oh darn...can you get the pattern? Can you split the bundle with a friend? You know me, always trying to make it work!

I am the Princess of Whims....and can justify just about any quilt purchase!!!Look at something else...Study on line... Maybe you can find it on sale....

i think you will find a way to make that quilt, maybe not in the fabrics like the sample, but even better with fabrics from your stash. I know we sometimes think that the only way a quilt will be 'wonderful" will be with the fabrics that someone else chose-----but using our fabrics makes it ours. It is good to whine sometimes, lets us know we are still little girls at heart. Hugs

Hi Darlene ...I sent you an email about this fabric. Lets talk ...

Something will come! Maybe you have in your stash colours that match the quilt. I understand about budgeting. There was a class that I wanted to take at my LQS but seemed too expensive for something I already knew what to do, but I loved the pattern. I did some research and found out that my guild had the book that the pattern was in.

The past few days I have found the Greek Cross colors and prints very appealing. Now I am so curious as to what pattern caught your eye. Did it have a name or a designer name?

Nope...it won't go away! Sorry my friend, but when I hear angels sing...I immediately buy whatever the need requires! LOL I still regret the kits I didn't buy that I loved...I can think of 2 that still bug me!
My advice..go back and get it!

Flea Market? I would be whining too!

I hate those sort of "wants". Mine would haunt me forever until I give in!

Jenniffier said...

I can completely relate. I however, probably would have caved and then cursed myself and regretted the fact that I am not strong enough to stick to my budget. So although you went home with out it I applaud you for having the strength to walk away.

That's not whining! What's the name of the pattern and kit? I'm heading to multiple quilt shops in a few weeks and I've got discounts! I love a good hunt!
